Johnny Plays Sax

Professional saxophonist based in Richmond, Virginia. I’m available for hire for weddings, special events, recording sessions, and private instruction. I’m known for my dynamic takes on both classics and current pop hits, and I love an impromptu request on the dance floor!

My love of music started at a young age, and I first picked up the saxophone when I was 11 years old. I began playing paid gigs in high school and from there went on to earn my Bachelor’s of Music degree with a focus in Jazz Studies from George Mason University. In addition to the saxophone, I also studied jazz guitar and have written original music on both saxophone and guitar. In 2023 I completed an EP with my indie rock outfit Lake Anna and have been working on new music for psychedelic rock project, Balter Choir. I have had the pleasure of performing at celebrated venues such as the Hylton Performing Arts Center, Songybrd Music House, Twins Jazz Club, Blues Alley, and The Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, as well as many weddings, private events, and local bars and restaurants across Richmond, Washington, D.C., and beyond.
