A Beautiful Highlight of Our Celebration!

Joanna and her tabla accompanist were absolutely phenomenal! Despite a delayed start due to parking challenges, they were kind, flexible, and handled everything with such professionalism.

Their performance was mesmerizing — technically flawless, emotionally rich, and so beautifully balanced that several guests thought we were playing a studio recording in the background. The special dedication at the end was a perfect touch.

Everyone at the event was blown away. Highly recommend Joanna — she brings artistry, grace, and genuine joy to every note. Thank you Joanna!

I highly recommend Joanna Mack for any event performance

Hello,
We scheduled a Sitar playing session by Joanna during our son's wedding reception. She came with her Tabla player partner with all her instruments and equipment. She dressed accordingly to go with an Indian wedding flavor. She played inside the cocktail room while people were having their food and mingling among themselves. They both performed very well. All our guests enjoyed their performance while having their finger foods during the cocktail hour.
I highly recommend her for your future events.

Good Choice

Joanna is a very professional artist. Indian classical music is foreign to most Americans. Her explanation of the music, including details of the sitar and tabla, followed by a dazzling performance, made for an unforgettable night.

Top notch

Joanna was extremely professional and very elegant. They were beyond talented. So lucky we had access to them on this app. They are the real deal. I wanted to skip socializing at our own party and just enjoy the music. Wow!

About

San Francisco-based musician Joanna Mack is a full-time performer and educator. With a career spanning global stages and a commitment to nurturing students of all ages, Joanna brings passion and expertise to every performance and lesson.

Joanna Mack began her pursuit of Classical North Indian Music in 1997. While studying Neuroscience at UCSD, she attended a Hindustani Music class with sitar virtuoso Kartik Seshadri, a senior disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar of the Maihar Gharana. She had been involved in Western music since childhood but was immediately drawn to Indian music. Recognizing Joanna's inherent talent and drive, Kartikji recommended her to study in Kolkata under the now late Pandit Deepak Choudhury, also a senior disciple of renowned musician Pandit Ravi Shankar. That year, Joanna traveled to India where she fully devoted herself to the pursuit of Indian Classical Music under the guidance of Deepakji. She continued her studies with him in Kolkata from 1997 through 2005.

Joanna then returned to the United States, promising Deepakji that her dedication to learn would not falter and that she would accept the responsibility to teach the traditional values and ideas of the Maihar Gharana. Joanna is fulfilling that promise today. She teaches private and group classes and performs in a variety of venues. She was fortunate to be able to study under the now late Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and continues her studies with sarodia Bruce Hamm at the Ali Akbar Khan College of Music in San Rafael and regular master classes with sitarist Pandit Partha Chatterjee.
