About
Jo-El “Shoobie” Wright, son of Louisiana Swamp Blues Diva “Margo White”, have entertained countless audiences around the world. Blessed with a rich, charismatic baritone which has been compared to Isaac Hayes, Barry White and Teddy Pendergrass, that moves the body and stirs the soul, Joel’s use of the love ballad to stir the passion of his female fans is only matched by his ability to make his audiences feel that they are a part of the show through his captivating stage presence. Since the mere age of nine, Jo-El has made the stage his second home, singing in night clubs and various other venues performing as a member of the band Young Generation. The following year, he was the lead vocalist for the band Santiago. During his adult career Jo-El (whose nickname is “Shoobie”) had the privilege of being the opening act for shows like Lakeside, Midnight Star, Margo White, Marvin Gaye, Marvin Sease, Shirley Murdock, Bobby Womack, Katie Webster, Freddy Jackson, Ramsey Lewis, War, and Denise LaSalle. After moving to Nashville in 1992, Jo-El recorded two Gospel CDs (“God Is Here” in 1996 and Everything’s Gonna Be Alright” in 1997) under T.R. Jaye Records for the incomparable Ted Jarrett (writer). Since then, Jo-El has produced and co-produced artists like Charlene Harris (Independent), Dr. Nancy Baylis-Shepard (Independent) and Earl Gaines (T.R. Jaye Records). Since then, Jo-El has written and co-produced a variety of music from multiple genres.
What Jo-El sings about is relationship and its sustainability through duration: “Is the problem big enough to break us up? You have my attention!! If not, let’s get on with living and loving!”
