Talented. Music Meditation.

Jin was amazing to have onsite at our surprise event. From the moment of arrival Jin was set up and prepared to put on a show. With hardly any downtime Jin played amazing Jazz tunes that kept everyone onsite in good spirits, and set a calming tone for all. Everyone doesn't love Jazz, but this morning everyone loved Jin. Professional from start to finish. I couldn't be more pleased. My event wouldn't have been the same without him. Thank you Jin ;)

Exceptional, Professional, Accommodating

As a first time user of Gigsalad - we couldn't have been more pleased with Jin J. X! He is exceptionally talented, showed great professionalism and accommodated my husband's appreciation of hearing jazz performed using some of his own tube amps.

Our event was an Open House style Halloween Costume party (Mad Hatter's Tea Party) with 50 - 75 people at our home. Jin was as comfortable performing background music for the crowd, as he was giving the last 6 people a solo performance.

We will certainly recommend him to our friends and hope our paths cross again in the near future!

Incredibly talented, original, and professional musician

I've seen Jin J. X play at several open mic nights and in bars across Springfield, Mo. He always captivates the audience with his talent and unique style.
As for my personal experience working with him, I'm the co-Owner of Arts & Letters and we asked Jin J. X to play at our figure drawing sessions every 4th Friday night. This is a hard position because although the music is very important, the audience is focused on drawing. First, he is an absolute dream to work with because of his organization and professionalism. Most importantly, he understands perfectly how he as a musician can enhance the moment and he delivers exactly what is needed with out going too far. Many of the people who frequent the drawing session have told us how much they love having him there. As a business owner and a music enthusiast I could not be happier with our choice to collaborate with Jin J. X and I take it as a compliment that he continues to play at our store.

What to expect

An audience member or client can expect the musical real deal: virtuosic guitar playing and soulful singing. Also fun, recognizable tunes, but with flair and and a lot of unexpected twists.

Also, I pride myself on being timely, kind, creative, and at all times professional. My goal is to put these behaviors on display as well as great music.

About

Jin J. X (The Jin J. X Group)

Jazz/R&B/Soul

Jin J. X is a progressive singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist out of Springfield, Missouri. He has a love and passion for Jazz guitar and a heart for R&B/Soul singing.

Jin is a musician of over 16 years with a mind to constantly grow, learn, and create.

Jin grew up in southwest Missouri, raised primarily on gospel music, son of a gospel singing mother. From a very large musical extended family, Jin remembers fondly making taking trips as a child to the south east corner of the state to hear his musical family play music and preach: this would set the stage and musical blueprint for Jin’s love of soulful music. It was in Missouri where Jin started playing guitar, bass, and piano and worked diligently to improve as an artist and musician.

In 2004, a 21 year old Jin moved to Chicago to further pursue music. During his time in Chicago, Jin worked diligently and established himself as a trusted sideman and go-to musician for many folk and jazz artists in the area. Some of these amazing artists include:

1. Jazz group, The Joe Jones Quartet
2. Hip Hop/R&B artist Somilia “Wildflower” Rabee
3. Folk/Jazz singer Betsy DeJong
4. Folk/Jazz singer Megan “Bird” Seiberg (Jin accompanied Bird for the Women in Music Festival 2011)
5. Canadian world group Sister Speak (Jin accompanied Sister Speak at the Leguna Beach Sawdust Festival in June 2010)
6. Grammy nominated blues/folk singer Samantha Cathcart

During this time, Jin also began focusing on writing and recording his own music and playing around the Chicago area as a Folk/Jazz artist.

In late 2012, after almost 8 years in Chicago, Jin moved back to his native Springfield Missouri. Back in Missouri, he quickly established himself as a versatile and skilled guitarist and singer. He was honored with the Ibanez Guitarist of the Week award in February 2013 and also established his own record label: Lost Isle Records.

With a passion for playing, Jin has taken on many playing engagements at venues and locations including back in Missouri, most recently: 100 Proof, The Outland, Big Mommas, The Tipsy Turtle, IdeaXfactory, Arts and Letters, Creekside Pub, Hooligans, The Flea to name a few. Jin also performed at the Missouri State University Woodstock Festival of 2014 as a head liner and solo performer.

Also, though happy to have a stellar rhythm section in bassist extraordinaire Shawn Munday, and powerhouse drummer Frederick Jackson, Jin also began taking more solo shows - he uses a loop pedal during improvisation and this idea allows his rhythm, bass, and guitar skills to be on display for a spontaneous and unique musical experience.

In July 2014, after three years of work, Jin finished his debut independent album: “Nightwings”, a major departure from the his folk and Chicago jazz sound and into a R&B and soul territory. Totally written, produced, and recorded by Jin, he says of the album:

“I love jazz so much, and it’s been such a motivation for me as an artist and musician. I’ve also had a long affiliation with acoustic and folk music: also music that I love very much. That being said, I had a vision - I was finding myself inspired by pop and R&B from the early 80s that Marvin Gaye (Midnight Love), Prince (1999, Around the World in a Day) and all Stevie Wonder were doing, and I also fell in love with Kanye West’s ‘808s and Heartbreaks’. I wanted to make an album that drew on these inspirations though also pushed the envelope with my guitar playing. The finished result is ‘Nightwings’, and I couldn’t be happier with it.”

Jin worked three years to finish “Nightwings”. He plays does all vocals, plays all instruments, programs drums, and produced the tracks. The music is powerful, sexy, and featuring virtuosic guitar and bass playing and soulful singing.

Jin is working to get a tour together for the album and takes joy in the opportunity to play music he loves for people who love music.
