Overview

Jim does square dance parties for people who don't ordinarily square dance. Square dance parties can be designed for children, adults, couples, singles, families, coworkers, or any other group that you can imagine. Jim also can do parties for people with physical or developmental disabilities. Parties will include square dancing, contra dancing, line dancing, and round dancing as appropriate to the ages and abilities of the attendees, the amount of time available, and your desires as event host or organizer. We can work with my recorded music or I can arrange a band.

Do not recommend in any way.

We hired this Clown of a DJ for our wedding in September. We hired him because we wanted irish dancing at our wedding. The groom provided very clear and detailed instructions via email

The first issue was he totally botched the brides entrance. Not a good time to make a mistake, but we rolled with it, mistakes happen.

The big problems started when the dancing began; we clearly explained our families have no background in dancing and it needed to be kept simple. We sent videos of dances being taught to 2nd graders. Our bride wanted a specific song danced to which was the most complicated of all the dances. We asked for this dance to be saved for last, and wanted 1-2 very simple dances first to get people comfortable and to build skill amongst guests. Instead Jim choose to start with the most difficult dance. I was unimpressed with his teaching methods; and was extremely surprised when the guests were able to actually accomplish the dance, as everyone was becoming frustrated.

Instead of building on this dance, Jim then decides to start another completely different and equally complicated dance. The guest became completely frustrated at this point, and half of then walked off the dance floor. Understanding the situation, the groom politely suggested to Jim that we should take a break from dancing. Jim took this as an opportunity to argue with the groom in the middle of the dance floor, while wearing a microphone, so the entire wedding could hear, and make a scene until the groom put his foot down.

DJ Jim Wass was then instructed to begin to play contemporary dance music and to take requests. Shortly after the groom was alerted to an issue; music requests were being completely ignored and he was flat out telling guests "NO". As the groom approached the DJ station, he found the bride walking away from the DJ table obviously upset. It turns out Jim thought he could DENY the BRIDE her music requests at HER wedding! The groom had to interrupt his wedding celebration to give a stern dressing down to a 70 year old man in front of his guests.

The Wife of the DJ was also a problem. She made comments to multiple guests about not wanting to play our "heathen music" (we were asking for radio-edits of the Black Eyed Peas). She also felt free to help herself to enough cookie boxes that guests began to make comments.

These two people throughly made a pair of horse's rear ends of themselves. I absolutely did not wish to pay him at the end of the night, but I choose to because I had several guests who upset to the point they were looking to pick a fight with him, and I didn't want further issues at my wedding.

I would highly recommend to NOT hire this DJ. He caused a scene, embarrassed the bride and groom and his services were sub par.

Wedding Event

As a bride having a fun and entertaining wedding was important to me, obviously. We decided to have a dry wedding and I knew no one from our families would want to get up and dance. I had square danced in the past and really enjoyed it. There was hardly any options to choose from in the Pittsburgh area and with a strong desire to do square dancing at the wedding I went ahead and booked Jim. I couldn't find any reviews, which is why I am leaving this review.

Jim did our entire wedding from MC, to DJ, to square dance caller. He played the songs we requested and was willing to work with our schedule. He did an excellent job at getting my guests to be involved with the dancing and everyone seemed to have a blast. He has a fun and quirky attitude. Not to mention his price is extremely reasonable. He worked with us as we went through the changes due to COVID-19 and was very good at getting back to me via email. Overall, our experience with him was quite satisfactory.

Thank you, Elizabeth. You were a great client and your friends were wonderful participants in the dancing! I did a party for a physician some years ago and he commented that a DJ gets 20 percent of the people dancing, a caller 80 percent. We don't always reach that number but we always go for it and have fun in the process. Once again I wish you many blessings!
