A grand prize winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, JPR plays deep-grooving folk rock with masterful band-in-a-box guitar work--originals as well as fresh interpretations of songs by such artists as the Grateful Dead, the Beatles, and Stevie Wonder. His music has won numerous honors in recent years, including a Sammy Award for Best Americana and a performance in the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Emerging Artist Showcase. In addition to solo shows, he performs with multi-instrumentalist Wendy Sassafras Ramsay as the duo Pepper and Sassafras--finalists for Best Duo at the FreshGrass festival--and with a full acoustic band featuring drum/percussion master Joshua Dekaney.
We hired Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers and Wendy for my brother's wedding welcome reception. There were about 120 people at a buffet-style dinner. First of all, these two are true musicians and sound great. Their voices blend perfectly and Wendy played a whole bunch of instruments. All the covers were excellent, there were a lot of familiar tunes, and the originals they played fit in perfectly with the rest of the set, while providing a great change from the standard. Also, the volume was just right to fill the room with atmosphere without overwhelming or preventing the party from being able to talk and interact. I'd hire them for another event in a minute.
