Jeff Wall "Bigdumbhick"
Overview
I'm a humorous acoustic singer, songwriter, storyteller with a background in Bluegrass, Folk, and Country music, and I guess you could say that my music is similar to that of Todd Snider, John Prine, Louden Wainwright III, and Jerry Jeff Walker.
I normally play out under the name BIGDUMBHICK. I would suggest that you Google that so that you have some idea of what I do.
I normally like to play a 90-120 minute show of my original music, or a mix of my originals and selected covers. My performance is bested suited for a mature audience. I can play a Baptist Preacher approved family friendly show if so requested.
I hope you dont request that.

February 13, 2020Fantastic show
I had seen Jeff perform before, but forgot how ...well...excellent of a performance he puts on. Great original songs. Funny, catchy, a little emotional. By the end of the evening my tap room was singing along to classic lines, "Don't be a dick" and "Never trust a..."
Jeff will be coming back to Madison for more shows. Just cannot say enough for this great (big) entertainer.

January 22, 2020Gargantuan!
This was my taproom's inaugural music event and Jeff BIGDUMBHICK Walls was a perfect fit. Ribald lyrics kept the crowd engaged in Jeff's unique delivery of his original work. Songs both heartfelt and hilarious had the taproom singing along to sounds they had never heard before.
We will certainly be having Jeff back again. Could not have asked for a more entertaining evening.

I jplayed at Hell on Horse Creek Brewing in Madison NC. A small intimate space in a small intimate town.
I could not have been treated any better. The owner made sure I was taken well taken care of, the crowd was jovial, friendly, and generous, and the space was cozy, warm, and inviting. All of that lined up just right to enable me to play my ass off, and that's what I did.
Thank You David Peters for a wonderful evening.
Man, that was fun.

What to expect
What do you get? 90minutes to two hours of original music, or a mix of originals and covers, and a bunch of stories.
He is an exceptionally large, hairy acoustic performer who commands attention. His original music runs the gamut from sidesplitting funny to dark and haunting.
Stylistically, his music is a mix of Bluegrass, Country Blues, and Americana.
He's going to make people smile and tap their feet. He might make a few people think. Whatever he does, it's going to be fun.
About
Hilariously Entertaining, Exceptionally Good Looking, Adequate Guitar Player
Jeff Wall is the Bigdumbhick, a name soaked with irony. He's a hilariously entertaining acoustic singer/songwriter/storyteller from the Winston-Salem area of North Carolina.
At 6’7” and somewhere around 350 bs, it is easy to understand where the “Big” part comes from. He takes up a LOT of space. The “Dumb” part is easy too. Look at him. He just looks dumb. Big and Dumb, the way your Mama likes them. He looks like Lennie Small with a guitar in his hands , but he knows who Lennie Small is and you’re probably going to have to Google that, so maybe he’s not as dumb as he looks.
Originally from the small town of Lebanon, Tennessee he claims that he had to leave the state in order to find someone to date that he wasnt kin to. He ended up in the US Navy where he would go on to spend the next 20 years sitting on his ass, chipping paint, smoking cigarettes, and perfecting the ability to sleep absolutely anywhere at anytime.
How someone with severe ADHD, a strong anti-authority complex, and a developing drug/alcohol habit was able to successfully serve 20 years in the Military is a mystery that will never be explained.
He kicked the drug habit and got clean, then he taught himself how to play guitar and it was a rare occurrence that you ran across him when he didn’t have a musical instrument somewhere close at hand.
He’s read a bunch of books, he’s traveled the world... several times, and he has met, broken bread, and played music with, people from just about every imaginable point of the political, religious, economic, and social spectrum. He’s not nearly as “Dumb” or as “Hick” as he might try to have you believe.
Upon retiring from the Navy, He settled in North Carolina where he would continue to play music at every opportunity.
At the ripe old age of 55 he decided that he needed to start writing his own songs. Realizing that the old, fat, cynical, perpetually grumpy, everything hurts, can’t get laid anymore, and dont really give a shit, demographic was sorely under represented in modern country music and if he could write songs that they could relate to, he could make 10s of dollars.
… Ok, so maybe he’s earned that “Dumb” part honestly.
Somehow or another, for reasons none can fathom, it has all worked out. He is a very unique, gifted, and darkly hilarious performer. He doesn’t sound at all like his appearance might suggest he would sound.
He doesnt really sound like anybody else. He uses irony and self-deprecating humor as a sort of candy coating to help make that dark and bitter pill of the human existence just a bit easier for us all to swallow. One moment he might have an audience crying with laughter, and then completely out of the blue he might hit them with something extremely raw and personal, and you might again see eyes welling with tears - this time for a completely different reason.
He's funny, but he’s not just a novelty act, he’s a seriously talented musician, with a groove so strong you could break a hip to it.
This is not a stage persona. He’s real. What you see is what you get. There's no pretense, no posturing, no bullshit. Well, maybe a little bullshit, but still, he’s real. He is what he is and he ain’t ashamed of it.

As a true believer in great music, I have seen him render an entire novel with only a worn-out guitar and a shaky voice. He's the real deal. Joseph North - Durham NC

I loved his stuff. I laughed my butt off and occasionally was mortified ...he crosses lines and doesn’t care one bit. That’s why he’s so friggin’ authentic. Peter Farrell - Songwriter/Performer- Philadelphia PA

If you get a chance to see Jeff, don’t miss it. Early songs brought nervous laughter, but by the end of the show there were belly laughs and a sing along. His lyrics are clever and his stories are unique... and true. Authenticity is hard to find these days, but I found it yesterday and it was wearing bib overalls. Terri Latham - Atlanta GA
Additional booking notes
All I really need is electricity and some drinking water and if I have to, I can get by without the electricity.
For the majority of performances, I normally play thru a Fishman Loudbox acoustic combo amp. Its pleny loud enough for small to medium sized rooms. I can line out of the Fishman into the house PA.
Occasionally I will run the guitars thru a pedal board and into a tube amp. (Tooooobs!) All instruments have installed pickups. I have an SM58 Vocal mic.
If needed I can provide a 300w JBL stick PA
I play seated and I provide my own chair
