Jazz Gitan [Gitan is pronounced J'tawn] is an acoustic jazz ensemble that carries on the tradition of gypsy swing created by Django Reinhardt together with Stephane Grappelli during their domination of the Paris jazz scene in the 1930s. The music of Jazz Gitan is the swinging jazz of the 30s and 40s, plus a cross-section of songs from the modern Gypsy Jazz repertoire and Original compositions by lead guitarist/band leader, Don Price. It includes Latin, blues, swing, and original styles combined to create a unique foot tapping and high energy Parisian influenced experience.

June 2, 2023We had the pleasure of having Don Price and his "Gypsy Jazz" band, Jazz Gitan at our venue on multiple occasions and produced live recordings for Don. We are particularly fond of this genre of music tracing its routes to Django Reinhardt, have attended various "Djangofest" events in the Pacific Northwest, San Francisco, Berkeley, and New York. We have heard this music performed by the best in the field, including many performances of the "Django Festival All Stars". We are happy to report that Don and his band really "get it" - their performances are so much more than "a lot of notes fast", they capture the true spirit of Django and the best of today's French Gypsy Jazz players. Not only that, they are awfully nice folks to work with - they are humble, kind, and appreciative. Our audiences just loved them which is why we kept having them back! Highly recommended.

Don Price and Jazz Gitan have performed along side players such as Richard Smith, Frank Vignola, Robin Nolan, Stochelo Rosenberg, and at many regional Music Festivals including Djangofest.
