Jan Kinder

A pioneer in mind body medicine, stress reduction, and sound/color vibrational healing, Jan’s clients often refer to her as having changed their lives forever. Personally trained by Deepak Chopra, MD and David Simon, MD, Jan was among the first certified Chopra Center educators/instructors, and worked closely with Chopra and Simon in the Center’s earlier years. A meditation practitioner for over 40 years, she continues to be a life-long learner in Eastern philosophies. ***Jan is a licensed registered nurse with a BA in psychology; board certified holistic nurse; certified music therapist; and credentialed Chopra Center Meditation Instructor and Perfect Health/Ayurveda Lifestyle Educator since 1995. She has acquired practitioner/instructor certifications in holistic stress management with Brian Luke Seaward, Ph.D, guided imagery, sound and color vibrational therapies and energy healing, and Transpersonal Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP).

She is a contributing author in the best-sellers, Conversations That Make a Difference, Stories Supporting a Bigger Vision, and Empowering Women of Social Media. She founded The Jan Kinder Center in south Florida, formerly the award winning The Self Centre International at the prestigious Caneel Bay Resort in St. John, USVI. Also, an accomplished classical pianist, composer, and former TV “jingle” singer, she’s a master-level clinician in the musical development / therapeutic philosophy of Dr. Carl Orff, and a certified practitioner with Tama-Do: The Academy of Sound, Color and Movement®.

Jan Kinder’s Journey

Jan’s Kinder’s journey began in her formative years when she started experimenting with music, meditation and yoga. Her studies and practice in Eastern philosophies and meditation continue to be her lifelong passion. After four years of hospital nursing, Jan elected to explore an avenue for combining medicine, music and spirituality. During the 1980s, she created and established comprehensive expressive arts programs serving over 300 families at Turtle Bay Music School in New York City, and founded the music therapy/music in medicine program at Rusk Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine, NYU Medical Center. In 1989, she was invited to develop and conduct similar curriculums for children and adults, including comprehensive healing and expressive arts programs for St. John School of the Arts (SJSA), USVI where she also served as Executive Director from 2006 – 2011 and continues to hold an advisory position. Jan had a significant shift in 1994 following a near-death experience. As she searched for a deeper understanding and value of her encounter, she was drawn to study and subsequently become an instructor with Deepak Chopra, MD and David Simon, MD in Ayurveda, meditation, mind body medicine, and the Return to Wholeness cancer program.

In 1996, she founded the Mind Body Health Institute in New Jersey, providing seminars, lectures and sessions in mind body medicine/Ayurveda, meditation and sound healing. From 2000 – 2011, in collaboration with Caneel Bay, A Rosewood Resort, USVI, Jan established the Self Centre International at Caneel, an internationally recognized mind body spirit wellness center. After eleven inspiring years, the center relocated to south Florida in 2012. She has served various populations in hospital/medical settings, corporations, universities, and the private sector. Mind body spirit interrelatedness and enhancing quality of life remain the themes of Jan’s personal and professional life.
