Overview

I provide background music in restaurant or event settings that can range from jazz, classical, or pop music. I can also create arrangements of pieces for people to learn, or to be performed by me in various settings. I can compose pieces by request, create accompaniments, or adapt other pieces of music for piano or other ensembles. By request, I also have access to my very own Jack Wyndham trio which can be hired for background music or performances! I also work for hire as an accompanist and have extensive experience accompanying choirs, soloist, and musical theatre groups. I have lots of experience in the studio and can be hired as a session player if needed.

Booking information

Price range: $200 and up.

Languages: English

Gig length: 60 - 600 minutes

What to expect

I typically arrive 30 minutes before I begin playing. I bring a keyboard, a large speaker, and an extension chord for my setup. I can play for as long as needed, but typically appreciate a 5 to 10 minute break every hour to an hour and a half. I am happy to play any repertoire required, and need no direction day of aside from where I should set up.

About

I grew up in Kitchener-Waterloo Ontario where I began dedicating myself to the piano at an early age. Through middle and high school I made my allowance by teaching piano for my mom as a substitute teacher, and eventually as an employee of her music school.

In high school I played in various musical ensembles and started my own jazz quartet called Streetlight Quartet. Streetlight Quartet played many shows and recorded a single which can still be found on YouTube.

After high school I went to Wilfrid Laurier University for classical piano performance and musical history, theory, and critical analysis. I originally planned to pursue a masters degree in jazz performance, but opted not to as my career had begun to flourish and I found plenty of time to study and practice through private lessons with various teachers in Ontario.

I now have extensive professional experience as well as strict training in my craft.

Additional booking notes

I can source any gear I need.

Set list

I can learn any pop or classical song for a show with typically about an hours notice. If it is a song I've heard (radio tunes, jazz standards, etc.) I can play it! I have a list of 150 tunes or so that I draw from that I can play accurately from memory which I use when providing background music. For classical music, I know all the popular pieces like Fur Elise, Clair de Lune, Nocturne in Eb, Trois Gymnopedies, Rondo a la Turca, Moonlight Sonata, Flight of the Bumblebee, etc.. New pieces can be learned but typically about a week will be needed for concert level performance.

Influences and inspiration

Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson, Liberace, Bud Powell, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespy, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, and all the other jazz greats had a profound effect on me during my development and I strive to channel each one as situations call for it.

Setup requirements

I have all I need.

If a grand is available, I prefer that to my keyboard.
