Amazingly versatile artist!!

Lisa can sing a wide range of music, from opera to pop, and would be an incredible asset to any event. She is frequently a soloist in classical settings, but also has extensive experience playing piano and singing for private events, weddings, and memorial services.

What to expect

If an audience came to see me, they would hear a warm, well-prepared vocal performance that fits the setting and the audience. My work spans a variety of styles and events, and I focus on delivering music that feels appropriate, accessible, and thoughtfully presented, whether the setting is formal or relaxed.

If a client hired me, they would get a reliable, experienced vocalist who communicates clearly and prepares carefully. I work with clients to choose music that suits the event, manage timing and transitions smoothly, and adapt as needed on the day. My goal is to support the event with music that feels natural and well integrated, while keeping the planning process straightforward and stress-free.

About

Lisa Barone is a singular force in the world of vocal performance, known for her richly expressive contralto, magnetic stage presence, and deeply personal connection to music. A native of Methuen, MA, she is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, where she earned both Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Vocal Performance, along with a Professional Studies Certificate.

Lisa’s journey to becoming a professional singer is nothing short of extraordinary. Born nearly deaf, she spent the early years of her life in near silence, only to develop an acute sensitivity to sound after regaining her hearing. That heightened awareness evolved into synesthesia—an ability that allows her to experience music as color, shaping her artistry in a way that is both deeply immersive and profoundly unique. This rare perception enables Lisa to interpret music not just as a series of notes, but as a vibrant, emotional experience, bringing an unparalleled depth to her performances.

A 2025 American Traditions Vocal Competition quarterfinalist, Lisa has been recognized with multiple accolades, including the Alexander Hunt Award, the Candace Macmillen Achtmeyer Award, and the Barbara E. Maze Award for Musical Excellence. She has performed major operatic and concert roles, including Suzuki in Madama Butterfly with Raylynmor Opera, Despina in Così fan tutte, and Maria Aegyptiaca in Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 at St. John the Divine under Kent Tritle. In 2025, she made her Berlin debut with the Dramatic Voices Program as Dryad in Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos, marking an exciting international chapter in her career. As an Alto Choral Scholar with the Oratorio Society of New York, she performed Verdi’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, and Carmina Burana.

Lisa is currently the Alto Artist in Residence with the Metropolitan Chorale, with whom she has toured for two seasons on the Boston Pops Holiday Pops Tour under Keith Lockhart. Recent highlights include the world premiere of Ēriks Ešenvalds’ Yosemite: Impressions of Light and Shadow, Britten’s The Company of Heaven, Monteverdi’s Vespro della Beata Vergine, and Until It’s Gone from Anthem by the Swingles, all conducted by Dr. Lisa Graham. She has also been a featured soloist in the Masterworks Chorale Summer Sings series, performing Haydn’s Nelson Mass and Mozart’s Requiem. At Wellesley Hills Congregational Church, where she serves as Alto soloist, Lisa is an integral part of the church’s acclaimed Bach Cantata Series. Recent performances have included Bach’s Mass in B Minor, Cantata BWV 106 (Actus Tragicus), and Cantata BWV 60 (O Ewigkeit, du Donnerwort), reflecting her deep connection to sacred repertoire and her ongoing commitment to presenting Bach’s music with clarity and devotion.

Beyond the stage, Lisa is a passionate advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, using music as a platform to uplift, empower, and create inclusive spaces. She believes that classical music should be a force for connection and change—one that amplifies underrepresented voices and breaks down barriers in the performing arts. Her advocacy is woven into every performance, whether through the repertoire she champions, the communities she engages with, or the safe spaces she helps create within the industry.

Additional booking notes

I am comfortable performing with live accompaniment or with professionally prepared tracks, depending on the needs of the event. For most engagements, I require a standard sound setup appropriate to the space, including a microphone and speaker system for larger or outdoor venues. Smaller or more intimate settings may not require amplification.

I do not have specific lighting or staging requirements and am able to adapt to a wide range of venues, including homes, churches, event halls, and outdoor spaces. I am happy to coordinate in advance with clients, planners, accompanists, and sound technicians to ensure setup, timing, and transitions run smoothly.

Influences and inspiration

My work is influenced by a mix of classical vocal training and a wide range of popular and traditional music. I’m shaped by classical and choral repertoire, as well as jazz standards, musical theatre, and contemporary artists, which informs a flexible, audience-aware approach to performance.
Rather than modeling my work on a single act, I draw influence from singers who prioritize clarity, storytelling, and stylistic versatility across genres.
