Overview
Linda Null, a dynamic and soulful vocalist with a voice reminiscent of Etta James and Janice Joplin, and Mike Slusser, a talented and gifted mandolin and guitar player, make up this well-loved South Central PA duo. Hopeless Semantics plays a wide variety of Americana music, including classic rock, country, blues, folk, and bluegrass. This duo uses multiple 6-string guitars, combined with 12-string guitar and mandolin, as well as keyboard, to provide a very diverse and entertaining show, with excellent banter and awesome harmonies. Their repertoire for requests is outstanding, and they cover over eight decades of music.

What to expect
We play a wide variety of Americana music from artists such as The Guess Who, Johnny Cash, The Eagles, The Cranberries, Patsy Cline, Tyler Childers, John Prine, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Neil Young, Radiohead, The Band, Alannah Myles, Jelly Roll, John Denver, Lucinda Williams, Etta James, The Black Crowes, Bob Dylan, The Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers, Steve Earle, Peter Rowan, Tom Petty, David Bowie, Chris Stapleton, CCR, Led Zepplin, Little Big Town, and Adele. This duo has a repertoire of roughly 1200 songs spanning the last eight decades.
People are always surprised at the level of expertise and talent we exhibit when playing gigs. In addition to harmony and entertaining the listeners, one of our strengths is playing requests from the audience.
About
Linda Null and Mike Slusser make up this well-loved South Central PA duo featuring mandolin, multiple acoustic guitars, keyboard, and dynamic vocals. Linda and Mike met in 2017, started to perform together in 2021, and formed a duo in August of 2022. They share their vocal talents individually as well as in combination to create awesome blended harmonies and duets.
Mandolin Mike Slusser is a talented and gifted multi-instrumentalist and vocalist with over four decades of experience, including 17 years in Nashville. Mike has established himself as a virtuosic and versatile player who is equally at home playing traditional bluegrass tunes or exploring more contemporary genres, while singing lead and harmony vocals.
Linda Null is a dynamic and soulful vocalist and has a loyal following in South Central PA as well as Northern VA. With a voice reminiscent of Etta James and Janis Joplin, she plays keyboard and guitar, and sings lead and harmony vocals.
Additional booking notes
We typically bring 4 guitars, a mandolin, and a keyboard so we do need some room to set up the instruments. If sound is provided, we would need 2 vocal mics and a minimum of 3 DIs for keyboard and guitars.
If we are bringing our own PA (we have a full PA with monitors and FOH speakers on stands, as well as a stick PA).
