Go Back Jack

Go Back Jack is happy to perform solo, duo or as part of a band. She enjoys performing informally as a busker or in jam situations, equally comfortable in the spotlight alone but is NOT a skilled music sheet reader, so please do not hire to read and perform written music. Took classical music lessons as a kid and forgot most of it! She plays from chords, listens to the original recording and improvises. Her music is quite original - her songs "Haunted", "Ten Miles West of New Orleans", "Little Girl Blue" but she also performs covers such as "Cocain" "Summertime" and just about anything bluesy or rock and can sing. She relies on a good ear and joins in without needing to know the key or arrangement of songs, so is in demand as a keyboard player in jam sessions. She might surprise you with one of her Hendrix inspired tunes such as "Astral Wife" or "Wrapped Up in Karma" or provide easy listening dinner music. Go Back Jack is a unique and never boring musician on the Calgary scene that likes flexibility to do her own thing with willingness to join others, is not hung up about money and loves playing music for the sake of it. Some of her time is spent recording originals which she performs in public using the recorded tracks and playing along with them, connecting her phone and Bluetooth Speaker to add to the performance or she may decide to perform without them, using her Casio keyboard and built in drum beats.

Maureen Kellar-Kirby AKA Go Back Jack is a singer-songwriter and author of the book "Go Back Jack", published by Total Recall Press in the USA. The lyrics of many of the original songs that she sings appear in her story about a blues musician who lived in the Deep South during the Great Depression but she is also versatile enough to play covers such as " Runaway", "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" and "Summertime" and has written several children's songs as as "Number Nine" and "Puffy White Cloud" and experiments with a type of music called "Celestial Rock" inspired by Jimi Hendrix. She has been a part of the music scene since 1973 when she sat in with the band Point Blank in San Francisco, (Billy Moon was a friend of Jimi Hendrix). She has recorded with the legendary producer Daniel Lanois who produced the band U2 in the early 1970's. She occasionally sits in with the Vintage Express Band at the Jubilee Legion 286, and has a busking permit to perform in Calgary Transit Stations (Police Clearance 2026). Some of her songs she performs on guitar and she is happy to play solo, as a duo or sit into any band situation. She is a Stagehand performing artist and has participated in The Music Mile and downtown on Stephen's Avenue in years past. Some of the musicians she has performed with include Gord Barge, Harve McCool, Larry Watmough, Lee John May and John Thiel.

Go Back Jack arrives with a Traynor battery operated stage amp but can plug into any PA system with her Roland VR09 lightweight keyboard stage piano. She uses a headset mic while busking but also has her own mic and stand. She has three keyboards but leaves the stage piano at home, most often using the Roland or a Casio for busking.
