June 30, 2026An Expert Speaker
Garland is an excellent speaker and is extremely knowledgeable in his fields of expertise. I have had the pleasure of participating in many of Garland’s networking events and workshops. I met Garland in a networking group he was managing, and he was incredible at connecting people and making new participants feel welcome. I was also a member of a group that Garland started, where we learned a ton of new software and apps on time management, productivity, AI, mind mapping, etc. Garland is an excellent trainer and very patient with everyone as they learn something new. I have also had the pleasure of hearing Garland speak as the keynote speaker for events on a variety of topics. Garland is a wonderful speaker, and I highly recommend him!

June 30, 2026Very Informative
Attended an AI workshop led by Garland and it was excellent. His comfort and knowledge with the material was exceptional, and he welcomed attendees to ask questions openly, adjusting his answers to fit what people actually needed. My only complaint is we ran out of time, we could have used another hour or two to keep learning

June 29, 2026An expert presenter
Garland is an excellent speaker and is extremely knowledgeable in his fields of expertise. I first met Garland inside of a networking group that he was managing and he was incredible at connecting people, making new participants feel welcome, and keeping the meetings running promptly but still enjoyable. I then hired him to assist me in finding software that would be a good fit for my business. He went above and beyond to find a system that I didn't even know existed, and was an exact match for my requirements. He stayed with me through the process of testing it and getting it set up. I can't even fathom how I was running my business without it, and that's thanks to Garland. I am currently in a phase of trying to learn AI, so of course when I saw that Garland was offering talks on how to use it, I decided to attend as many of them as I could. The last one I saw, on AI for productivity, was the absolute best resource I've come across for learning how leverage AI for a business. He spoke clearly, his thoughts were well organized, it was easy to follow along and generate ideas for my own implementation at the same time. He even showed us action steps in real time, so I was able to leave with a full plan for half a dozen new ways to use AI in my business. I highly recommend him!

About
Garland Coulson — known to audiences across North America as Captain Time ⏰🦸♂️ — is an AI-productivity and time-management keynote speaker, corporate trainer, and author on a mission to rescue teams and organizations from wasted hours, digital overwhelm, and the kind of "busy" that never moves the needle.
The average team quietly loses five or more hours every week to busywork, app-switching, redundant meetings, and outdated habits. Garland helps them get those hours back. Through high-energy keynotes, lunch & learns, half-day workshops, and multi-session corporate training programs, he shows audiences how to harness practical AI tools and proven time-management strategies to work smarter — not harder, and not longer.
What sets Garland apart is the combination behind the cape. AI productivity is the wedge that grabs attention, but his decades of deep time-management expertise are what make the change stick. Plenty of speakers can demo a shiny new AI tool. Garland connects those tools to the way real teams actually work, so the strategies survive past the closing keynote and show up in Monday-morning habits.
The Captain Time Approach
Garland built the Captain Time persona around a simple, memorable promise: he's your partner in productivity, here to help your people reclaim their most valuable, non-renewable resource. The superhero angle isn't a gimmick — it's a teaching tool. It gives audiences permission to laugh at their own time-wasting villains (the endless inbox, the meeting that should've been an email, the notification that derails an hour of focus) and then arms them with the practical "superpowers" to defeat them.
His sessions are known for three things: energy, clarity, and immediate usefulness. There's no dry theory and no tech overwhelm. Garland explains AI and productivity systems in plain language that anyone in the room can follow — whether they're a digital native or someone who still treats their inbox like a to-do list. Audiences leave inspired and, just as importantly, equipped with specific tools they can apply the very next day.
What He Speaks and Trains On
Garland's content lives at the intersection of two pillars that today's organizations care deeply about:
AI for Team Productivity — practical, forward-thinking, hype-free. Garland shows teams how to use AI tools like Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity for real, measurable time savings: drafting and summarizing, research, planning, meeting prep, content creation, and the dozens of small daily tasks that quietly eat a workday. He focuses on workflows and outcomes, not buzzwords, so leaders can see exactly where the hours come back.
Time Management for Teams — the foundation beneath the technology. Garland delivers specific, actionable tactics for leaders and their people: protecting focus time, taming meetings and notifications, prioritizing what matters, and building team-wide habits that compound over a year. Numbers and timeframes make it concrete — because a team that reclaims five hours a week reclaims more than thirty workdays a year.
Popular formats include conference keynotes, association sessions and AGMs, corporate lunch & learns, half-day workshops, and longer multi-session training programs tailored to an organization's specific time-drains and goals.
Who He Helps
Garland works with the people responsible for their teams' performance and growth: learning-and-development leaders, HR and talent-development managers, department heads and team leaders, and the association event chairs, program directors, and executive directors who plan conferences and member events. He delivers virtually across North America and in person, adapting each session to the audience in front of him — from a packed conference ballroom to an intimate corporate team off-site.
The through-line is always the same: a clear, measurable transformation. Teams stop drowning in busywork. People reclaim hours every week. Leaders see their organizations work smarter, with less stress and more focus on the work that actually matters.
Credentials and Credibility
Garland is the author of Stop Wasting Time, a practical guide that distills his philosophy into strategies anyone can use. His expertise has made him a sought-after voice on AI productivity and time management, and his Captain Time brand has made him a memorable, much-requested presence on stages and in training rooms alike. Meeting planners book him because he reliably energizes a room and delivers takeaways audiences rave about; organizations bring him back because the results show up in how their teams work.
The Experience of Working With Him
Beyond the stage, Garland is genuinely warm and easy to work with — the kind of speaker who treats event organizers and clients like family rather than transactions. He collaborates closely with planners to understand their audience, their goals, and the specific challenges their people face, then tailors his message so it lands. The result is a session that feels custom-built, not canned, and a speaker who makes the planner who hired him look great.
His style blends authoritative expertise with real humor and heart. Audiences trust him because he clearly cares about helping them, and they remember him because Captain Time makes productivity genuinely fun. It's a rare combination: a subject-matter expert who can hold a room's attention, change how people work, and have them laughing along the way.

Influences and inspiration
Captain Time may wear the cape, but the philosophy behind the persona is built on the shoulders of some remarkable thinkers.
Garland's approach to time management was shaped early by Alec Mackenzie's The Time Trap, the classic that named the real "time wasters" most of us never notice. Cal Newport's Deep Work reinforced his belief that focus is a superpower — and that protecting it is the highest-leverage thing any team can do. James Clear's Atomic Habits shapes how Garland teaches change to stick: not through willpower, but through small, repeatable systems that compound over a year.
On stage, Garland is heavily influenced by Garr Reynolds' Presentation Zen — the idea that great presentations are clear, visual, and respect the audience's time and attention (fitting, for a time-management speaker). Seth Godin's Poke the Box fuels his bias toward action: knowing the strategy isn't enough; you have to start. And Nicholas Boothman's Connect with Anyone in 90 Seconds informs how Garland builds instant rapport with a room, turning a presentation into a real conversation.
Blend those influences together and you get the Captain Time experience: clear and engaging like Reynolds, action-focused like Godin, grounded in deep focus like Newport, built on lasting habits like Clear, sharpened against the real time-traps Mackenzie identified, and delivered with the human connection Boothman champions.
