Mickey Savage Biography
Born in Hoboken, New Jersey, Mickey Savage’s musical roots run deep, ironically growing up on the very same street where Frank Sinatra spent his youth. After attending Thomas Jefferson High School in Brooklyn, he went on to graduate from Brooklyn College in 1979, setting the stage for what would become an extraordinary music career spanning over four decades.
Mickey first made his mark in the 1980s as a central figure in the Hard Rock scene, performing in top venues across New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Boston. As the lead vocalist and songwriter for several notable bands including 911 Emergency Band, Vision, Equinox (a jazz-rock fusion group), and The Mickey Savage Band, Mickey gained a loyal following and high demand throughout the region. His powerful performances led him to share stages with rock legends such as Billy Joel, Foreigner, Kid Creole & the Coconuts, Def Leppard, and Tears for Fears, with appearances at major events like the Nassau Coliseum Rock Festival and multiple Battle of the Bands competitions in New York City.
In the 1990s, Mickey expanded his repertoire by collaborating with Latin music ensembles and teaching percussion to aspiring musicians. One of his students, Angel Roldan, went on to found the internationally acclaimed percussion company Conga MD (Conga Doctor), a success story that Mickey continues to inspire as a mentor and musical guide.
An accomplished multi-instrumentalist, Mickey plays piano, rhythm guitar, bass, drums, and Latin percussion. He produced and released a genre-blending CD, currently available on YouTube, Apple Music, and Pandora, featuring a fusion of hard rock, heavy metal, pop, R&B, jazz, and salsa.
Pursuing a deeper understanding of music, Mickey later trained as a classical musician. In 2004, he entered the French American Conservatory of Music in New York City, graduating in 2014 under the mentorship of Professor Jean Pierre Schmidt. He emerged as a classically trained conductor, adding yet another dimension to his musical journey.
After the passing of his wife of 40 years, Mickey relocated to Florida, where he now performs primarily as a Frank Sinatra tribute artist. His performances, backed by big band arrangements, have been praised for their authenticity and unmatched emotional depth. His musical versatility allows him to transition seamlessly between Sinatra standards, classic rock, blues, R&B, and salsa.
Mickey has also written and sold songs to Rainbow Records in California and is currently collaborating with a New York City publisher as a songwriter. His longtime manager, Mike Wallace, the founder of Wallace Entertainment and once Mickey’s drummer, has represented him for over 30 years. In addition to managing talent across the Tri-State area, Wallace is also a top financial advisor on Wall Street and remains one of Mickey’s closest friends.
Music is truly in Mickey’s blood. His mother, Maria, was a celebrated soprano who sang on the radio in the 1940s. Today, Mickey carries that legacy forward, captivating audiences with his virtuosic performances and timeless style.
