FlavaEvolution is a truly unique jazz quartet. With just three horns and bass they are playing something altogether fresh, creating a sound that crosses a chamber string ensemble with modern jazz, 1970's soul, and beautiful balladry. FlavaEvolution's repertoire ranges from Pop/Rock/R&B tunes of the last 50 years and today, through swinging jazz standards, to original compositions, all with their own signature sound and style. Performing since 2008, they have connected with audiences at several venues, and provided the soundtrack for a variety of private events. FlavaEvolution has the ability not only to improvise within the music, but also to adapt our performances to best suit the venue, clients, audience and vibe of the room. Most of the events we play start with one of the two following approaches, and will be tailored to fit the specifics of the day.
Public Performances: We aim to engage. The music is dynamic, and so is the execution. FlavaEvolution has a strong stage presence and commands the attention of the room. The arrangements and the improvising are unique and the performances are fun. Frank Newton introduces each tune with detail and backstory, giving the listener a context for what they are about to hear.
Private Events: We aim to cater. Many private events will call for music that is interesting and fun, but quiet and non-obtrusive; we can do that. Some call for a spirited performance to entertain their guests and raise energy; we can do that. Some wedding couples will have specific requests for their ceremony music that needs to be arranged for their special day; we can do that.
We aim to provide the best musical experience for the listeners and the clients in every performance, and will adapt to any situation.

Arrangers Frank Newton (saxophones/woodwinds) and David Picchi (double bass) founded in FlavaEvolution in 2008, and have since penned over 100 pieces of music for the group to perform, including several original compositions. The other two original Flava members Paul Olesuk (trombone), and Mat Schumer (saxophones/woodwinds) left the group in 2012 to pursue personal endeavors. Current members Dan Hendrix (trombone) and Jake Weiner (saxes/woodwinds) have completed the line-up since, and keep the group swinging strong into the future.
One of the great things about FlavaEvolution is our flexibility in staging. In most scenarios, we will require only one power outlet (for the bass amp). We can play inside, staged, on the floor, outdoors, on a truck... wherever you need us, provided a space minimum 15'x10'.
