FIRECRACKER SMILE, based in Austin, Texas, pays tribute to the music of Stone Temple Pilots, lovingly recreating the sonic bombast and sublime beauty originally made by one of the best bands in the history of modern rock.

FIRECRACKER SMILE was created in June 2021, after bassist Dave answered an ad to audition for a singer forming a new Stone Temple Pilots tribute band. Much like when original bassist Robert DeLeo recruited his brother Dean as the guitarist, Dave recruited his brother Darryl - a guitarist and longtime fan of Stone Temple Pilots - to come along. Dave and Darryl recruited a friend to play drums for the audition, and afterward, the trio realized it sounded and felt amazing to perform the music of Stone Temple Pilots, but the singer who auditioned them was not going to cut it. Through a long audition process lasting into October 2021, the brothers found drummer Kyle and vocalist Wade - both veteran rockers - to complete their lineup, and FIRECRACKER SMILE debuted in December, 2021.

As a band, FIRECRACKER SMILE's decision to rehearse and develop the material before booking dates starting in 2022 has led to a tight, powerful show, happy venues, and ecstatic audiences - even the band had no idea of the positive reception they are receiving - from people who are familiar with Stone Temple Pilots, and people being introduced to the music through FIRECRACKER SMILE's delivery.

From the get-go, guitarist Darryl felt comfortable leading the band's development, and a week after the original audition, during a moment of watching some footage of Stone Temple Pilots, a line of lyrics jumped out from the song “Hollywood Bitch”, and Darryl had a eureka moment, realizing that he had found the perfect name for the group, and FIRECRACKER SMILE was born. According to Darryl, what makes the name so good is that it didn’t follow the usual trend of naming a tribute band after a song title. Darryl goes on to say that, “the name FIRECRACKER SMILE crackles with excitement and action, and has plenty of fun and creative marketing images to take advantage of - it is a very visual name.”

Often called Alternative or Grunge Rock, Stone Temple Pilots has become one of the most commercially successful rock bands from the 1990s and into the '00's, selling 40 million records worldwide. The band has 16 top ten singles on the Billboard rock charts, eight peaking at #1, a #1 album, a Grammy win, and reached #40 on VH1’s 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. Wade, Kyle, Dave, and Darryl all agree on how exciting it is to bring this visionary group’s music back in front of rock audiences. “We absolutely love their music and want to remind people who come to see us just how great this music still is."
