November 4, 2025Amazing Job. Cannot Rave About Him Enough.
I cannot rave enough about our pianist! He was a last-minute hire after I wasn’t happy with the quality of the first one I booked — we booked him just two weeks before the wedding, which is no easy task, especially when learning new songs in that short amount of time. From the start, his communication was seamless. I sent him the songs, and he took the time to listen, adjust, and tailor them perfectly to fit the vibe of our wedding, which I absolutely loved.
I gave him full creative control, and he completely exceeded my expectations. I don’t even think I had to talk to him the day of the wedding — he knew exactly what needed to be done and handled it flawlessly. The music turned out more beautiful than I ever imagined. This was one of the most important details for me, and he truly made my dream come true.
It added such a personal, emotional touch to the ceremony — especially the way he adapted each song to flow naturally with 25 sets of people walking down the aisle. I gave him what he needed, and he took care of the rest — which is everything you could hope for when you’re getting married. Truly a professional, talented, and dependable musician. Highly recommend!

Nothing But Velvet was extremely tasteful for our black tie formal wedding. They knew what type of music to start with and end with. Farrell is very intentional with client conversations and is open to all ideas. We had SO much fun dancing, crying, laughing!! The night would not have been the same without this incredible band. Our wedding guests thoroughly enjoyed NBV and we would highly recommend them over and over again! Family vibes if you know what I mean!

I am not exaggerating, people are still asking us the name of the band we hired for our wedding as the entire time all of our guests were on the dance floor. NBV played while our guests were eating dinner, and we saw people standing at their seats dancing. It was literally the perfect match and we are so appreciative of their time and talent. Through the entire process Farell answered all of our questions and made us feel like we had nothing to worry about when it came to the music. They even played our first dance, mother/daughter and mother/son dances. Highly recommend if you are looking for a band for your special day! We were very lucky to book their last available weekend in October for this year. The only sad part about booking NBV is the party is over, we can't wait until our next celebration so we can hire them again!

About
Music has always been more than a job for me. It has been a lifelong companion, a way to serve others, and a way to bring people together. I’m Farrel Hutchinson, a pianist, keytarist, and bandleader based in New Jersey. I grew up surrounded by music and eventually turned it into a full-time career performing at weddings, corporate events, church services, and private celebrations. Over the years, I’ve learned how to read a room, follow the energy of a moment, and play with the kind of heart that leaves a lasting impression.
My journey has taken me from intimate gatherings to grand stages. I’ve had the privilege of working with brands like NBC, Marvel, and Hulu, and performing for organizations such as Columbia University, Macy’s, and the New York Historical Society. My band, Nothing But Velvet, was created out of a desire to craft live music experiences that feel timeless and unforgettable. Whether we are performing as a cocktail trio or a full seven-piece party band, we show up with professionalism and joy every time.
My musical style draws from a wide range of influences including jazz, gospel, pop, R&B, classical, and cinematic music. I love exploring different genres and tailoring each set to fit the tone and flow of an event. Whether I am playing "Clair de Lune" or leading a high-energy rendition of a pop anthem, I bring the same level of focus and feeling to every performance.
In addition to performing, I teach music, produce, and serve weekly at my local church. I am also a husband and a proud father of two young children. Being a parent has deepened my understanding of how meaningful music can be during life’s biggest moments. I take every booking seriously and treat it as an opportunity to help someone celebrate, honor, or reflect with music that feels deeply personal and thoughtfully delivered.
