Fun and Developmentally Appropriate

Esperanza was on time and she provided a creative storytelling experience for my elementary-age Summer child care program.

Storytellers

Sarah ann dip pity is very professional! Communicated all the particulars prior to the event. She called bc she was going to be ten minutes late due to traffic. She has a great personality and is an excellent story teller.
I only gave three stars bc I was looking for a preschool story teller--these little guys need props, and interaction--her story was very good but not age appropriate for our little guys

I felt I was clear to the client that my telling wouldn’t include props or puppets or anything like that. But as that was an issue for this client, I have made sure to specify this in the description.

About

Public speaker, storyteller, actor and standup comic, Esperanza Phoenix is a woman of many talents.

Ms. Phoenix studied acting and visual communication in college and has been an artist and writer her whole life. Storytelling, public speaking on socially relevant topics and standup comedy are a great fit for her wealth of life experience. Esperanza includes her original works and unusual life experience in her storytelling programs and writes her own standup material as well. It is her belief that storytelling teaches the listener empathy and sometimes we just have to laugh at life to keep from crying.

Keeping the oral tradition of story alive is important to Esperanza. She’s one of the founding members of the Mother Lode Storytelling Guild (MLSG) with her mentor, professional teller BZ Smith. Before moving to the Bay Area, Phoenix regularly performed at the guild's monthly meetings.

Esperanza Phoenix’s offers programs for audiences of all ages. Her motivational and thought provoking programs include such topics as Growing Up Raceless (an inclusive perspective on the human species) Living With Depression (giving your death for the ones you love) Surviving Your Parents (a unique perspective on Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.)

Her storytelling programs for children and all ages often feature bilingual stories that incorporate a Native American and Latin American flavor. She enjoys weaving together both traditional stories and original tales. When requested, Ms. Phoenix will craft a program unique to the theme of your event.
(However, Esperanza finds cultural misappropriation unacceptable. If you are looking to hire a performer to celebrate Black History Month, for example, please contact one of the fabulously talented performers of that heritage. If you want to celebrate indigenous people of North America, please consider Ms. Phoenix.)

Phoenix also enjoys exercising her funny bone at open mic events in the Bay Area.
