About
The Show Must Go On: A Life in the Spotlight
Even before I ever entertained, I knew I loved to make people smile and bring joy to their day. It felt like something I was born to do, a fundamental part of who I am—even if that sometimes involved a few prank calls to the local radio station, just to hear a chuckle on the airwaves. The idea of eliciting a response, a laugh, or a moment of happiness, was always deeply ingrained in me.
My professional journey began precociously in my early teens. It wasn't just a casual interest; I was already performing stand-up comedy and doing balloon twisting at local events and even at my high school. My drive to understand what truly made people laugh was evident even then – I'd grab a notepad, head to the bus station, and approach strangers to ask them what they found funny. I was restless in my elective classes, always seeking an outlet for my creative energy. Finally, at the end of my senior year, I got to switch to drama, where I quickly excelled at improv comedy and stand-up, solidifying my stage presence and comedic timing. That early, hands-on research and relentless pursuit of performance were key to honing my craft.
From that tender age, the stage truly called to me, and I answered with an enthusiastic leap. My path would lead me through an incredible array of performances and entrepreneurial ventures.
My early twenties found me immersed in the vibrant, demanding, and utterly captivating world of the circus. It was during this chapter that I cultivated unique physical skills, including the intricate art of balancing objects on my face. I learned the ropes – sometimes literally, as a flying trapeze artist. But my curiosity and passion for performance didn't stop there. I honed my skills as a juggler, brought joy with intricate balloon twisting, and even dared to defy danger as a fire eater. The silent, expressive arts of a living statue and mime captivated me, offering a different kind of connection with an audience. I mastered the art of balance as a unicyclist, explored narratives through acting, and always returned to my first love: the raw, immediate connection of stand-up comedy.
By my late twenties, that passion for the circus evolved into ownership. I ran a small top circus, a two-person operation that was a testament to years of dedication and a deep understanding of the entertainment business. It was an exhilarating chapter, though I quickly realized I wasn't quite ready, nor did I want to build a traditional "big top" circus.
Pivots and Personal Connections
Life, like any good performance, often has unexpected plot twists. I even spent time as a background actor on many TV shows, steadily climbing the ladder in that arena until the sudden halt brought on by COVID. Seeking a different kind of stability, I tried my hand working for a steel factory, but it quickly became clear it wasn't the right fit for my spirit. This realization prompted a significant move to Arizona.
It was in Arizona that serendipity truly struck. I had the incredible fortune to reconnect with a lifelong friend, and from that rekindled connection, a beautiful relationship blossomed. That relationship is now strong and vibrant, approaching its fifth year.
A New Act: EM Stilts and Balloons
None of this came easy. Since my early teens, I've moved several times and worked over 30 jobs. I've learned that I simply don't fit into the 9-to-5 world and never will. My drive comes from within, and I'll work my butt off, but only for the right reason and for what I'm passionate about. This intense dedication is what led me to make the strategic decision to close my circus, not as an end, but as a pivot towards a more specialized and efficient form of entertainment. This led to the birth of EM Stilts and Balloons.
This new venture is a distillation of my lifelong experience. It leverages the high-level skills I've cultivated over decades—the visual impact of a stilt walker, the intricate artistry of balloon creations, and even unique acts like object balancing—into a high-value, low-overhead business model. It's about delivering premium entertainment with precision and impact.
Beyond the Hours: Defining Success on My Own Terms
While the outside world may sometimes misinterpret my "low hours, high pay" approach, my girlfriend and I are tirelessly building something special. We understand that success isn't just measured in visible hours clocked, but in the quality of the work, the value delivered, and the strategic vision behind it. My journey from a young performer, meticulously researching humor at a bus station, dialing up radio stations for a laugh, and winning high school comedy competitions, through the bright lights of TV sets and the grit of factory work, to a circus owner, and now to a specialist in high-end entertainment with EM Stilts and Balloons, is a testament to passion, adaptability, and the enduring power of a life lived in the spotlight.
