Most people have never seen a Mentalist performing LIVE!
Without the use of a magician’s props or a juggler’s hoops, I will mystify and amaze your guests, many of whom will come away believing they have actually seen “The Real Thing”. Mixing philosophy & humor with science & psychology to demonstrate the workings of the human MIND, Donatelli is funny and entertaining, erudite and charming, and yes, just a little bit scary! (All in good fun.) And before the night is over, I may just have you believing that you, too, can know the future.
At home on stage, cabaret or across the table, this is magic as up-close and personal as it can possibly get.
And yes, I do know what you’re thinking…

A series of “experiments” in non-verbal communication will have you wondering if you’ve been mental all your life. Without making any claims to “psychic abilities”, Donatelli will use his extensive knowledge of human nature to “read” your mind, predict the future, and include certain members of the audience in full-scale mind reading demonstrations.
Witty and intuitive, he will educate (in a fun way) and explain the mysterious workings of your own mental processes, exploding myths and connecting the threads that weave all humanity together. Using archetypes from a Judeo-Christian perspective, Donatelli draws on familiar stories, popular notions, and real history of the study of parapsychology to take you and your guests on a fun-filled journey in thought, sense and emotion, but without any of the spooky woo-woo.
“I see myself sort of like the train conductor, as we travel through the world of intuition, exploring parts of human thought and feeling that most people are never aware of, then returning everyone safely back to the point where we started.”
I actually started doing magic as a teenager. My first “for pay” job was working in a magic shop called the Palace of Mystery, at the time the largest and oldest magic shop in the South East. I loved playing with all the “cool toys” and learning how the tricks worked.
Eventually life got in the way and the magic toys went into a box in the garage. It would be years later when one of my boys opened the box and asked, “Hey, Dad. What’s this?” and the love affair was rekindled.
Of course by now, I’m a much different person than that young magician of another century. The painted boxes and shiny rings don’t hold the same fascination they once did. Now I want to do it “for real”.
Without getting into all the weird stuff and spooky theatrics, I try always to find the magic that happens every single minute two people are together. This can be mundane or it can be amazing; it can even be life-changing.
I’m a simple man, but not uneducated, completely at home with a six syllable adjective or a home-grown homily. What I will do is to make you and your guests feel comfortable and at ease while exploring aspects of human intuitive ability that will, quite frankly, blow your mind and leave you with goose bumps.
What I consider to be the greatest compliment I’ve ever received was that I could stand in front of an audience of 500 people and make each and every one of them feel cared for. This is something that I don’t take lightly, and I promise to bring that same sense of belonging to your gathering, whether fifty people, five hundred, or five.
It would be my greatest honor and pleasure to take you and your guests on a journey of discovery into what may truly be the final frontier: your own mind.
The performance can take place on a proper stage, a riser, or just a cleared area (10x10), as long as there is room for me to get in and out. There are some props (a table and some white boards), and I’ll need room to set them up. Lighting isn’t all that important, as long as everyone can see and hear what’s going on. Larger rooms should have a sound system, since Mentalism is not a particularly “visual” performance; folks need to be able to hear what’s going on. I prefer using a lapel mic, since it allows my hands to be free. And I do like to draw people out of the audience to help onstage, so there needs to be room for people to get in and out of their seats. That’s about it for the “technical” stuff.
Without a doubt, Orson Welles, a great actor, magician and story teller who could hold an audience spellbound with nothing but a book of matches.
Also, as a child I remember watching Mark Wilson's "Magic Land of Allakazam" every Saturday morning for years. Later on, Bill Bixby starring in "The Magician" was something I never missed. Doug Henning was a popular character, but the hippie persona just didn’t fit anyone I knew.
Seeing The Amazing Kreskin for the first time, I thought he was “weird”, but wondered how he could possibly “know” all that stuff. Then I found out!
Sound system adequate for the venue.
Cleared area (10x10) with easy access
Comfortably spaced seating (I use volunteers!)
