While the DJ is not the only factor in making your event a fun/enjoyable experience he/she can make or break an event. A great DJ should take pride in and understand the great responsibility that comes with the role they play in making a successful event/party. A great DJ is "heads up" and knows when to ebb and flow. He should be professional and fun at the same time. A deep knowledge of music in general is paramount for the various stages of an event. A DJ should be able to size up the room rather quickly, fill the dance floor at the drop of a dime and work it like a maestro conducting an orchestra. The events of a Wedding Reception (Cake Cutting, Bouquet Toss etc.) should flow with the event rather than feeling like an "interruption". The focus should be on keeping an unobtrusive, seamlessly effortless flow to your event. You and your guests should be able to look back and say "Wow I had a great time". The DJ should be working with any Event coordinator, if you have one, and direct the Event in a relaxed manner so that you and the guests are under no stress what so ever. There should be no questions left unasked on the day of your event. At the actual Wedding Reception The Bride and Groom's only job is to enjoy the day.

Picking all of the songs for your DJ doesn't make it an easy no brainer for your DJ. A great DJ reads a room. A great DJ knows that the songs are important. Knowing when and knowing when not to play them are even more important.
