DJ Neilsix

dj neilsix — Open Format DJ | Oakland & the Greater Bay Area

For over 25 years, dj neilsix has been turning ordinary gatherings into nights people still talk about. What started as a deep obsession with vinyl and turntablism in 1999 has evolved into a career built on one core skill: reading a room and knowing exactly what it needs to hear next.

From the Turntables Up

dj neilsix didn't start behind a laptop with a curated playlist. He started as a turntablist — cutting, scratching, and blending on actual vinyl, learning the mechanics of sound and rhythm from the ground up. That foundation is rare among DJs today, and it shows in his live mixing: seamless transitions, on-the-fly adjustments, and a technical command of the craft that comes only from years of hands-on practice.

As his career progressed, his musical curiosity expanded. He immersed himself in drum and bass and other electronic dance formats, sharpening his ear for tempo, energy, and build. But it was his growing love for all styles of party music — the songs that make people scream the lyrics, grab a partner, or rush the dance floor — that shaped him into the DJ he is today: a true open format artist who can move fluidly between eras and genres without ever losing the crowd.

A Career Built on Big Stages and Real Rooms

dj neilsix's experience isn't limited to weekend gigs. He has opened for industry icons Questlove and Jazzy Jeff, sharing a stage with two of the most respected names in DJ culture. He's also performed at numerous corporate events, bringing polish and professionalism to rooms where the stakes — and expectations — are high.

Beyond the corporate world, he has built a reputation across the Sacramento and San Francisco club circuits, playing to a wide range of crowds in some of the most demanding venue environments in Northern California. Whether it's a packed club floor at midnight or a quiet cocktail hour setting the tone for an elegant reception, he adjusts his approach instinctively, without ever compromising the vibe of the room.

What He Plays

As an open format DJ, his sets move across decades and genres with intention. Expect a blend of:

• 80s, 90s, and 2000s throwbacks that bring instant nostalgia and energy
• Club and commercial pop hits that keep the floor moving
• R&B classics and modern favorites for smoother, groove-driven moments
• Hip hop, spanning old-school staples to today's biggest tracks

This range means he can serve a birthday party full of longtime friends just as easily as a wedding reception with three generations on the dance floor, or a high-energy club night built for peak-time drops.
