A Jazzy Night for Hope: Denver Jazz Quartet at the Sundial

The Denver Jazz Quartet was an absolute gem and such a memorable part of our event. From the moment they began playing, the entire space transformed—suddenly everything felt more vibrant, more elegant, and just a little more magical. Their music struck the perfect balance between upbeat and relaxed, setting a tone that invited people to linger, mingle, and truly enjoy the evening.

They’re not just talented musicians (though they absolutely are)—they’re storytellers, entertainers, and mood-setters. Guests were genuinely delighted, with many asking where we found such a fantastic group. The band was also a pleasure to work with: professional, easygoing, and completely in tune with the flow of the event.

If you're looking to elevate your gathering with style, soul, and a bit of unexpected joy, I can’t recommend the Denver Jazz Quartet enough. They were a trip—in the best way—and we’d book them again in a heartbeat.

What to expect

DENVER JAZZ QUARTET PERFORMS AT A VARIETY OF VENUES FROM SMALL TO LARGE, FROM LIVE CORPORATE ENTERTAINMENT TO CLUB DATES TO JAZZ FESTIVALS.
The DJQ performs primarily as an instrumental jazz quartet or as a jazz trio and even a jazz duo. The Denver Jazz Quartet can also be augmented by adding another instrument or a vocalist. The DJQ has performed with some of the finest jazz singers both locally and nationally.
The DJQ performs hundreds of songs from the American Song Book. We refer to these songs as standards in the music industry. They are your favorites and familiar to all who listen to and love music. We also can perform most any song, whatever the genre as long as there is a recording and/or sheet music available. We are professionals among the best of the best available in Denver and Colorado.

About

Charlie Z has played professionally for over 40 years, playing classical music to jazz. As a clarinetist, he started studying privately with the woodwind professor in residence at Kansas State College of Pittsburg, Kansas at the age of 12. During high school, Charlie started playing gigs with local rhythm sections developing his ability to improvise on standards. After high school, Charlie received his degree in music from the Conservatory of Music in Kansas City, Missouri. During his college years, Charlie began to also include the Alto and Tenor Saxophones and began playing in some of the night clubs in K.C.

Next, Charlie joined the Air Force Concert Band in Washington D.C. For the next four years, he performed for U.S. Presidents and dignitaries both nationally and internationally. Later, Charlie made his home in Denver, Colorado and has lived there since.

Over the years, Charlie has performed with such jazz notables as Roseanna Vitro, Dick Hindman, Richy Cole, Dave Zoller, Eric Gunnison, Bruce Forman, Paul Warburton, and many others. He has toured with Doc Severinson and Red Skelton and has performed at many jazz festivals including Telluride, CO. The DJQ was one of the featured groups at the Queenstown, New Zealand Jazz Festival in 2004.

As a producer, "Z" and his company Zanichelli Productions brought some of the finest names in Jazz to Denver and presented them in concert with their recording and touring groups. Such notables included Milt Jackson, Herb Ellis, Stanley Turrentine, Phil Woods, Freddie Hubbard, Joe Farrell, Ray Brown, Monte Alexander, Gene Harris, Tito Puente, Buddy Rich Orchestra and the Woody Herman Orchestra among many others. The Woody Herman concert at Mammath Event Center also was declared "Woody Herman Day" by Mayor Frederico Pena. It was Woody's 50th anniversary tour.

Set list

First and foremost, we perform all of the hundreds of songs from the American Song Book and more. There is not enough space available here to even begin to list them.
If you have a list of songs you want performed, I will work with you. If it's Jazz, Blues, Latin or even some POP, chances are we can perform those for you.

Influences and inspiration

I have attended live music performances of all kinds from coast to coast in the USA and abroad. From small jazz clubs to large concert halls, I have performed as well as enjoyed performances from the audience perspective. Music has been my main passion all of my life! I have also been influenced by the many notable names in the music industry that my company, Zanichelli Entertainment, has brought to Denver in concert. You can refer to my Biography on this site for more information regarding this.
I only work with the best of the best professional musicians in Denver and along the front range. I have their respect because they know what to expect whenever I reach out to them. As for the clients who hire my services, they also can expect the very best performance available.

Setup requirements

No additional equipment required. Electrical near the bandstand is required.
