Overview

I provide piano performances for wedding ceremonies, receptions, and ambient/background for private parties and corporate functions. Performances may range from solo to jazz quintet with vocalist. With 35 years experience as a working musician, top flight references, and performing and recording experience with internationally known artists such as Mason Dixon, Jimmy LaFave, Pierce Pettis, The Lost Gonzo Band, Eugene Hideaway Bridges, John Inmon, and local solo performances at Austin venues such as Chez Zee, Sullivan's and Perry's, I cover a very wide range of musical genres and have the talent, knowledge, equipment, and flexibility to help make your event a memorable one.

David performed at a Rehearsal Dinner for my son and his fiancé at Green Pastures in Austin, TX on Friday, November 27th. He is a talented pianist and everyone enjoyed his beautiful music throughout the evening which added to the ambience of the event and venue. From the time we selected David as our pianist, his correspondence was prompt as we exchanged information about our needs. He arrived early at the event and played until the conclusion. My husband and I really enjoyed working with him on this important event for my son and his fiancé. I would highly recommend David Webb based on our recent experience.

What to expect

My task is to provide a pleasant and aesthetically pleasing experience. Often, my job is to simply be ambient/background music for parties or gatherings. I play a wide repertoire of styles and my goal is to make the audience aware that I am present and offering a little something extra while at the same time allowing for conversation. I enjoy spontaneity, take requests and will have as much or as little interaction as audience members desire and have turned piano bar gigs into full blown weekly concert series by playing my heart out and interacting with audience members.

For wedding ceremonies, I meet with clients and determine their desires. I've had brides march down the aisle to a tango or Edith Piaf chanson and had couples exiting to Vince Guaraldi's "Linus and Lucy", as well as an all Duke Ellington ceremony. I encourage couples to be creative in their choice of ceremony music, as it is their very special day and I want the music to be a memorable part of it. I have a wide range of potential ceremony repertoire and gladly entertain all suggestions.

About

Keyboardist David Webb received his B.M. degree in Professional Music from Berklee College of Music in 1982. Over a 35 year career, he has performed and recorded across nearly the entire spectrum of American popular music styles: country with CMA Award nominees Mason Dixon and Beth Williams, and Outlaw country icon Jerry Jeff Walker, blues with harmonica virtuosos Pat Ramsey and Rob Roy Parnell, guitarist and Blues Music Award nominee Eugene Hideaway Bridges, and legendary pianist Marcia Ball, Americana rock with Jimmy Lafave, Matt Smith, and Guy Forsyth, folk with critically acclaimed songwriters Iain Matthews, Pierce Pettis, Eliza Gilkyson, Eric Taylor, and Bill Staines, instrumental works with master guitarists Mason Ruffner, John Inmon, and Richard Gilewitz, and jazz with his own solo and trio projects, multi-reed master Tony Campise, Compass Records recording artist /trumpeter Rod McGaha and vocalist Larisa Montanaro.

David has received 2 NEA grants for a lecture-performance program, From Ragtime to No-time, on the history of jazz piano for the Leon County, FL Public School system, and been an artist in residence for several years with the Sweetwater WY ISD, performing school concerts and workshops. He is also a resident artist with the non-profit organization, Symphony of Soul, providing music performances for retirement and nursing homes, at risk children, and the homeless. He has also served for many years as a musician/facilitator for Groove Labs, providing corporate music workshops for business clients including Dell, IBM, State Farm, and Bank Of America.

He has appeared as a guest artist with Pete Seeger and Arlo Guthrie, Odetta, Marcia Ball, James McMurtry, and The Allman Brothers Band, and shared bills with The Zawinul Syndicate, Spirogyra, Tim Weissburg, and Tuck and Patti. TV and radio appearances include Mountain Stage, Nashville Now, and Gulf Coast Radio/Live. He has composed for film and dance and makes his home in Austin TX.

Additional booking notes

I provide my own PA (Bose L2- very compact, inobtrusive and powerful) where required for most standard house/wedding/private functions which will cover a medium ballroom sized area.
Tech requirements for large halls where PA is provided:
2 direct boxes when digital piano is used
and 3 open input channels into house system:2 for keyboard, one for voice.
A monitor speaker, preferably 2 way with a 12/15inch speaker and horn
A Shure SM-57/58/Beta or similar quality microphone for announcements
