November 3, 2023Absolutely fantastic!
I booked David Michael Cray for my mom's 80th birthday dinner. It was her first birthday since my dad passed away and a milestone year to boot - so I knew I had to make it extra special. I knew what kind of music I wanted and David was able to blow us all out of the water with his talent. His beautiful classical guitar provided the perfect ambience to a really special dinner. He was also a really great communicator throughout the process. A super talented individual and very easy to work with. I would highly recommend him and will definitely hire him again.

September 13, 2021Beautiful Music!
David Michael Cray has performed live and via recorded music for services at my progressive Presbyterian Church in Greensboro, NC, (Presbyterian Church of The Covenant). David's an accomplished musician with a huge repertoire, and his musical selections have been enjoyed by our congregation and visitors several times. We've already booked him for future church services, and can't wait to have him with us. He's a wonderful artist whose technical proficiency is matched by his clear love of the music he plays. We highly recommend him!

I have heard David play many times, and have eagerly anticipated each session. His skills are amazing, as is his ability to respond to an audience. Not only does he play classical music, but dabbles in jazz and rock/pop as well, and nails each genre.

Thank you, Rodney, for those kind words. I always loved the many performances I was able to play there at Cone Health. I wish you all the best there!

What to expect
Much of the music that I play is the kind of music that would often be performed for royalty. Kings, Queens, Princes, Princesses, Dukes and many others would have this music in there courts. Fingerstyle harp, lute and guitar music has been known to be used to try to soothe troubled Kings like Saul in the Bible and can bring a very peaceful feeling for people who hear it. This healing nature to music has been proven even in science, regenerating the DNA of people and even purifying water. I use a special tuning system that has been found in studies to be more effective at doing this and I play music that naturally can ease peoples suffering. We have always known music to be uplifting, but new technology has shown us that it is doing even more than we knew. I sometimes talk about the healing nature of music in my performances as well. I always make every effort to provide professional and courteous service to all of my clients and there guests. I will perform music that can be both soothing and relaxing as well as exciting and invigorating. I can provide a beautiful musical atmosphere that is great for more intimate settings as well as for larger events. The hymns are often favorites of music lovers as well as the Broadway tunes and my favorite is the improvisation as I love making things up on the spot. I might see if you can guess if its written! I've fooled em' before! Ha! Ha! I also like to give little fun facts about the music and the composers sometimes. Contact me for a peaceful and enjoyable performance of beautiful finger-style guitar music!
About
My name is David Michael Cray and I am a classical guitarist/author/speaker available for any event. I have performed nearly 900 concerts since 1990 including twice with the W-S Symphony. I perform solo classical guitar and have also shared the stage with top 40 Christian act "Overflow" while I was in a band called Zion.
I have been studying guitar since 1986 and graduated High School and College from N.C. School of the Arts with a Bachelors of Music Performance. I am also an alumni of Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA and attended Brevard College in N.C. I have performed in Masterclasses with many of the greatest classical guitar performers and teachers in the world including four grammy award winners as well as Bruce Holdsman(tied with Shearer for most competition winner students in world) and I studied privately with Aaron Shearer(13 books with Mel Bay Publishing) who had the most competition winner students of anyone in the world. I also studied privately with a student of the great Andres Segovia named Gerald Klickstein who founded Peabody's Music Business Center. I can provide a beautiful atmosphere of both soothing and exciting music from all time periods.
My classical guitar album "Little Miracles" was released in November of 2018 and is available on CDBABY's website.
Please contact me for your next event and so that I can help you make it a very special occasion for everyone there.
Additional booking notes
I will only need a chair without arms, a plug, and adequate lighting. I will provide my own amplification unless you have a very large crowd and you may choose to get a P.A. of your own if you think it will be needed. Usually, my amp has enough volume for a group up to about 100 people. A plug is needed as I recommend amplification as classical guitar is very quiet without the amp. If you can avoid rooms with noisy refrigerators or open rooms with other activities nearby that can hinder being able to hear I would recommend it if possible although I have played those rooms too and it has still been received well. It is just something to consider when planning your event if you have other options available.

Influences and inspiration
William Kanengizer, David Russell, Andres Segovia, Steven Curtis Chapman, I grew up listening to Classic rock and that has probably influenced my improvisational skills. Also, I love D.C. Talk and Decypher Down and a lot of other Christian bands although I don't know if you would be able to tell from my classical guitar playing. Also, I grew up with alot of the traditional hymns in church and loved them. I also love technically advanced progressive rock bands like Dream Theater and Neal Morse and Transatlantic. Really there are too many influences to mention them all.
