Had a great experience with Darryl - his pre-event communication was great, he was on time, and played exactly what we'd requested in advance. Will work with him if we have another event in the area.

About
Hailing from the vibrant heartbeat of New York City, Darryl Joyner—professionally known as DJ is a dynamic DJ and producer redefining the soundscape for a modern audience. Darryl’s journey began at the intersection of school marching bands. Realizing that the music needed a modern frequency to reach the pulse of the city, he developed a "The Sunday Ride Home" designed to bridge the gap between urban culture and Kingdom values.
Specializing in Urban Contemporary Gospel, DJ is a master of high-fidelity production. His sets are characterized by "StudioGrade" sound—a commitment to technical precision and professional-grade audio that ensures every beat is as powerful as the praise. From the heavy 808s of Christian Hip Hop and Gospel Trap to the infectious rhythms of Afro-Gospel, Reggae, Amapiano, Darryl curates a clean-lyric experience that moves the feet and the spirit.
Versatility and Experience
A Howard University alumnus with deep roots in music production, Darryl brings an elite level of expertise to every event. He is an expert at "reading the room," whether he is providing a high-energy "Forged in Praise" atmosphere for youth events or the soulful, reflective "Sunday Ride Home" vibes for community galas and intimate celebrations. Technical Requirements & Performance Notes
To ensure the highest quality "StudioGrade" audio-visual experience for your event, the following requirements must be met. These standards allow me to maintain a consistent professional environment that aligns with the NYC urban contemporary gospel brand.
Performance Space & Staging
--- Footprint: A minimum level area of 8' x 6' is required for the DJ booth, equipment, and speaker stands.
--- Environment: For outdoor events, a level surface and overhead covering (tent or permanent structure preferred)
Audio Specifications
--- PA System: I provide a high-fidelity sound system consisting of active PA speakers.
--- Microphones: 2x professional wireless handheld microphones are provided for announcements and toasts.
--- Venue Integration: For venues with "in-house" sound, I require two balanced XLR or RCA inputs at the booth location.
Power Requirements
Circuits: Two (2) dedicated 15-Amp or 20-Amp 110V circuits are required.
Proximity: Power outlets must be located in proximity DJ booth.
Safety: Circuits must be grounded and not shared with heavy-draw equipment such as catering warmers, coffee makers, or portable heaters to prevent circuit breaks during the performance.
Lighting & Atmosphere
--- Silver Sanctuary Package: My standard setup includes silver-accented LED wash lighting and matrix effect lights to create a modern urban atmosphere.
--- Haze/Fog: If your venue allows, a low-profile hazer can be used to enhance the "Silver Sanctuary" volumetric light beams.
Logistics & Timing
Load-in/Setup: I require access to the performance area at least 30 to 90 minutes prior to the start time. This allows 15 minutes for physical setup and 30-60 minutes for a comprehensive StudioGrade sound check.
Music Coordination: To ensure a tailored experience a "Must Play" and "Do Not Play" list should be submitted at least 3 days prior to the event.

Influences and inspiration
Being based in NYC, I am constantly influenced by the world-class excellence of the New York City Gospel Choir and the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir. Their ability to maintain a "high-prestige" professional standard while serving the inner city is the standard I strive to meet in every performance across the five boroughs.
The Future of Turntablism
In the DJ booth, I look to pioneers like DJ Wade-O and modern mashup innovators like Andre Arkade, who have redefined what is possible when faith meets turntablism. Their work in blending Christian Hip-Hop (CHH) and Urban R&B with mainstream production value informs my goal of providing a sophisticated, grace-based alternative to secular culture.
As a "Kingdom Connector," I am inspired by the spontaneous and diverse worship culture of Maverick City Music and Elevation Worship. Their commitment to authentic, unfiltered live recording mirrors the "Authenticity through Imperfection" trend I prioritize in my 2026 visual sets. Sonically, I am driven by the infectious rhythms of Afro-Gospel and the high-energy "Worship Drop" sessions pioneered by Tye Tribbett.
Setup requirements
Dedicated Circuits: Two (2) dedicated 15-Amp or 20-Amp (110V-120V) circuits.
Circuit Load: To ensure an uninterrupted performance, these circuits must not be shared with heavy-draw venue equipment such as coffee urns, heaters, or catering warming trays.
Load-In/Setup Time: Access to the performance area is required 90 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
Strike/Load-Out: Approximately 45–60 minutes are required to safely strike the equipment and lighting after the final track.
Sound Check: A 30-minute window for a "StudioGrade" sound check is performed once setup is complete to calibrate the system to the venue's specific acoustics.
