Darby Smith

I usually carry a tambourine with me, and it's up for grabs.. Whoever wants to play can go right ahead. I am a chill, yet energetic performer, but i also love to joke around with the crowd. I like to make everyone feel appreciated.

Darby Smith, a Galloway, Ohio native, has known she would be a musician for nearly her entire life. From the tender age of 8 years old, Darby exhibited a remarkable talent for playing instruments; she began her musical journey by learning to play the piano. However, she soon found her true passion as a guitarist and singer at the age of 13 while watching other musically-inclined family members perform at a family reunion.

Darby developed a distinct musical style soon thereafter under the guidance of several instructors hailing from Columbus, Ohio. The now-19 year old musician cites influences such as Colbie Caillat and Tori Kelly when describing her current style – taking a page from Taylor Swift’s book, Darby’s songs are often anecdotal in nature and contain an upbeat, nouveaux-pop sound.

Three years ago, Darby found herself a bit nervous to play in front of the crowd gathered for Kitamu Coffee’s (located in Hilliard, OH) regular open mic night; coffee shop owner Mo Muhidin provided a quick pep talk and reassuring words, and sent Darby’s confidence – and stage presence – soaring.

Darby credits Mo, her late relatives Uncle Robie and Grandma Blackberry, her father, brother, mother, and local musician Joey Hendrickson as mentors and inspirations to keep producing music regularly.

Darby graduated from Fairbanks High School in 2012 and currently attends Columbus State Community College. She plans to transfer to Belmont University in Nashville, TN to further pursue a professional musical career while majoring in Music Business and Psychology
