Cynthia Jones takes full command of her stage no matter how small or large the audience is. She always bring her A game. Even though Cynthia Jones is a gospel artist, she has a large diverse fanbase mixed with Jazz, Neo-Soul, and Blues lovers from all walks of life. Demographically she seems to appeal to a mature audience ranging in age from 30 on up.
North Carolina award winning neo soul gospel star, singer, songwriter, producer Cynthia Jones, has been doing her thing from the time she wrote and composed her first song in high school. She comes from a musically inclined family, her mother and father both were very good singers, her brother was a trombonist, and her sister was a drummer.
My mom is the reason I’m in the music industry today, ” says Cynthia ", my brother and I had to take piano lessons every Saturday morning “even if we didn’t to, my mom made us take them anyway, she said she wanted us to be well-rounded.
Indeed, Cynthia is well-rounded, not only does she play the piano, but for recreation she hang glides, whitewater raft, horseback ride, and she’s an exceptional motorcyclist founding two motorcycle groups, The Ebony Angels and Soul Patrol Motorcycle Ministry.
Cynthia released her first CD "Almost Midnight" in 1999 on her own Record label, "Angel Dove Records" and while creating a buzz in the industry, she picked up the title throughout the Carolinas as one of the hardest working women in gospel, releasing two more albums on her label.
By 2008 she caught the attention of, and is currently on Kingdom Records, which is home to #1 Billboard charting, and Gold selling artist "Shekinah Glory Ministry", for her earthy, organic style of gospel music.
Her music had a bold blend of Neo Soul with a twist of Jazz, and her voice was simply arresting with a mix of Erykah Badu, Billie Holiday, and Jill Scott.
The industry dubbed her as the Erykah Badu of gospel, and when she released her current masterpiece "Journey of Soul", it was obvious that Cynthia Jones was no longer appealing to just a church audience, with tracks like her sultry laid back song “Got to Be There” and "Unconditional", to the heart gripping, high octave track “Revival”.
In fact she is known as one of the baddest neo soul gospel artist who's music and message has gone far beyond the church walls, receiving an array of awards and nominations in 2012, starting with three Grammy nods for Best Contemporary R&B Gospel, Best Performance, and Best Song, to receiving Radio Ones' Heritage Award, and The North Carolina Prestige Award for Female Gospel/Jazz Vocalist of the Year.
I don't believe that God gave us just one genre of music use for his Glory ” says Cynthia ". I believe you can use other genres of music as long as your message is clear who and what you're singing about.
Cynthia has appeared on major television networks: BET’s Bobby Jones Gospel and Bobby Jones “Visions”, TBN’s Dino Show and she has also graced the pages of the popular secular magazine “Sister 2 Sister” as one the most unique gospel artist to watch out for.
Cynthia has shared the stage with Kirk Frank, Fred Hammond Martha Munizzi, and many other gospel heavy hitters as well as with non gospel artist such as blues legend Bobby Rush.
She is currently touring, sharing the stage with world renowned Jazz artist Ben Tankard. They did a sweet collaboration on his current “Full Tank” CD which features jazz greats Gerald Albright, Tim Bowman, Mark Kibble of Take 6 and Ms Cynthia Jones herself, singing a remake one of her hit songs “Something About That Name” from her 2008 Gotta Soul CD.
This musical marriage has broaden her already diverse audience to a much larger fanbase, including the steppers in the Stepping community (An 8 or 6 count style of dance known as Chicago Stepping) to a mixture of neo soul and Jazz music lovers from all walks of life that simply love, respect, and appreciate the musical integrity and lyrical honesty that’s found in her music.
So if you are looking for gospel, and you love the neo soul style of Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, India Arie, then you're gonna to love Cynthia Jones, she IS the baddest neo soul gospel artist
