About

Shelby Jo Long is a globally recognized communication strategist, executive leader, and brand positioning expert who helps organizations transform the way they communicate, lead, and compete. As President and Global Partner at the Strategic Advisor Board and CEO of multiple companies, Shelby operates at the intersection of leadership, communication, and business strategy—guiding organizations to elevate performance through intentional messaging, structured decision-making, and powerful brand presence.

With nearly two decades as a college professor of business communication and over twenty years as a nationally competitive debate coach, Shelby brings a rare combination of academic rigor and real-world application to her work. Her foundation in argumentation, persuasion, and strategic communication informs every engagement, allowing her to help leaders move beyond surface-level conversations and into high-impact dialogue that drives results.

Shelby specializes in helping organizations solve one of the most overlooked challenges in business: ineffective communication disguised as alignment. Many companies believe they have a conflict problem—but what they truly have is a silence problem. Shelby’s work disrupts this thinking. She teaches leaders how to replace passive agreement with structured, productive dialogue that improves decision-making, strengthens culture, and accelerates growth.

As a professional speaker and international speaking coach, Shelby has worked with CEOs, executive teams, professional athletes, and high-level influencers to refine their message, expand their visibility, and position themselves as thought leaders in competitive markets. Her approach goes beyond traditional branding. She focuses on aligning identity, communication, and strategy so that leaders not only articulate their value—but consistently demonstrate it in every interaction.

Shelby is a four-time international best-selling author, including her books I See Your Genius: Transform Your Idea into Income and Communication Is Your Competitive Edge: Embrace the Debate. Her work has also been featured in the Strategic Advisor Board book series on small business leadership and operations, as well as in academic publications and industry anthologies. Across all platforms, her message is consistent: communication is not a soft skill—it is a strategic advantage.

At the core of Shelby’s work is her proprietary CORE Leadership Framework™, which equips organizations to build cultures rooted in constructive disagreement, ownership, resilience, and engagement. Through this framework, leaders learn how to transform tension into trust, conflict into clarity, and conversation into measurable outcomes. Shelby’s methodology provides a repeatable system that organizations can integrate into leadership development, team dynamics, and decision-making processes.

Her signature philosophy, “Embrace the Debate,” challenges organizations to rethink how they approach disagreement. Rather than avoiding conflict, Shelby teaches teams how to use it as a tool for innovation, alignment, and competitive advantage. By creating environments where diverse perspectives are encouraged and structured conversations are normalized, organizations unlock higher levels of engagement, accountability, and performance.

Shelby’s expertise extends deeply into brand strategy and market positioning. She works with small to mid-market organizations—as well as high-growth entrepreneurs—to build comprehensive brand frameworks that support long-term visibility and influence. Her process helps clients clarify their core offer, define their market position, and create messaging that resonates with their ideal audience. The result is not just stronger marketing—but a cohesive business strategy that drives sustainable growth.

Through her work with the Strategic Advisor Board, Shelby collaborates with some of the most influential brands and leaders in the world, helping them navigate complex business challenges while maintaining clarity in communication and direction. Her ability to connect high-level strategy with practical execution makes her a trusted advisor to organizations seeking both immediate results and long-term impact.

In addition to her executive and consulting roles, Shelby is the CEO of Cadence Speaker Academy, where she helps speakers and experts build profitable platforms, secure paid speaking opportunities, and develop scalable offers. She is also the CEO of Business Dynamics, where she supports organizations in aligning communication, leadership, and culture to improve performance and profitability.

Shelby’s speaking engagements are known for their energy, clarity, and immediate applicability. She does not deliver theoretical content—she delivers actionable frameworks that leaders and teams can implement in real time. Audiences walk away with tools to communicate more effectively, lead with confidence, and create cultures that support both performance and people.

Her keynote topics often center on leadership communication, decision-making, team culture, and brand influence. Whether she is speaking to corporate executives, entrepreneurs, or emerging leaders, Shelby’s message is tailored to meet the specific challenges of the audience while maintaining a clear throughline: when communication improves, everything improves.

What sets Shelby apart is her ability to translate complex ideas into practical strategies that drive measurable outcomes. She understands that organizations do not need more information—they need better implementation. Her work focuses on bridging that gap, ensuring that every concept she teaches can be directly applied to improve performance, culture, and results.

Shelby’s impact is both immediate and lasting. Organizations that work with her experience stronger alignment across teams, more confident leadership, and clearer pathways to growth. Leaders develop the ability to navigate difficult conversations, make more effective decisions, and inspire trust within their organizations. Teams become more engaged, more collaborative, and more invested in the success of the company.

At every level, Shelby’s work is rooted in one central belief: communication is the foundation of influence. When leaders learn how to communicate with clarity, intention, and strategy, they unlock the full potential of their people, their brand, and their business.

For organizations ready to move beyond surface-level communication and build a true competitive advantage, Shelby Jo Long delivers the insight, strategy, and frameworks to make it happen.

Additional booking notes

I can adjust to any environment needed for training and speaking. My presentations, whether a keynote, a workshop or a training session are very interactive and engaging. There is groupwork and active communication during the entire session. I loke to have spaces to work with so I can move people around. Though that isn't required for the presentation
