What to expect

I offer 1-2 hours of background jazz music to any private event. I can bring my own amplifier and microphone, or she can plug into an existing sound system. I will play solo alto saxophone over backing tracks, specializing in jazz standards with lively improvisation sections, although I am happy to learn 1-5 song requests to add to the set list as well, if given up to a week's notice of the requests.

About

Colleen Johnson is a queer singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Having studied classical and jazz piano and saxophone for over 25 years, Colleen got her start in the jazz bands The Vermahorns and The Fedora Project when she was in high school, winning first and second runner up at Portland Music’s Rose Festival Battle of the Bands in 2009 and 2010 and performing at the Crystal Ballroom with the Crazy 8s. In college, Colleen played tenor saxophone and keyboard in the indie rock band Clouds of Neptune.
Colleen currently plays alto saxophone in the band Alpha Cricket, keyboard in the band Baby Grendel, and is working on a solo EP with producer Max Baker. She also recently played saxophone as a session musician for ZZ Ward's The Dirty Sun Tour show at Revolution Hall.

Additional booking notes

I will need a place to set up my laptop and either PA plug ins for XLR and instrument cables or room for my own amplifier to play through. I will supply my own saxophone microphone as well as backing tracks on my laptop and/or phone and the cables/adapters necessary to plug into the sound system. I will also need enough space for a music stand.
