Galy Martin, La Habana, Cuba - Florida, USA.
She started taking guitar lessons at the age of 10. She earned a Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance at the Instituto Superior de Arte of Havana (ISA) in 2005. Later, pursued further study Musicological Research Methodology ((phone number hidden)0) and The accompanying guitar in Cuban music ((phone number hidden)1) at ISA.
She has given solo and chamber music recitals, especially as a duo with her father, the outstanding guitarist and composer Eduardo Martin. She has performed as a soloist with prestigious chamber and symphony orchestras. Has played on stage in Cuba, United States, France, Mexico, Argentina and Germany. Also, in radio and television programs in those countries. She has given lectures and master classes in the above mentioned countries. She has made world premieres of many works by contemporary composers.
In the United States, Galy has performed at University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), Shepherd University, Shepherdstown (West Virginia), Keene State College (New Hampshire), Florida International University (FIU) and New Jersey City University (NCJU). Also she worked one year at Vivace Arts Conservatory and Crescendo Music Center, South Florida.
She planned important events such as Encuentro de guitarra Identidades (five editions), Conciertos Habaneros, Festival Internacional de Música Contemporánea, and Encuentro del Colegio de Compositores Latinoamericanos de Música de Arte. She directed the concert series En Confluencia with the Master Eduardo Martin every month for 10 years. Two of the CDs in which she participates have been nominated to the Cubadisco awards.
