Having spent more than 10 years in the events industry, I have a unique understanding of what makes for a good speaker.
In addition to being reliable and generally "easy" to work with, here is a "Top 10" of basic principals I keep in mind for all of my speaking opportunities:
1. Tell stories.
2. Get people to stand up and wake up.
3. Give the audience a chance to listen to each other; not just me.
4. Breathe and pause.
5. No Charlie Brown (wha wha wha-wha wha).
6. Don't "should" all over everyone.
7. Give 'em tweet-worthy quotes they'll remember forever.
8. "For example" adds instant clarity.
9. Be human; flaws, mistakes, warts and all.
10. Make the people laugh.
