Ubaldo Piangi in Phantom of the Opera on Broadway

Overview

I perform a wide range of vocal repertoire for all types of events or occasions. I typically require some type of accompaniment which can take the form of backing tracks which can be played on a speaker or PA system to a pianist or live band. Operatic music is my forte, but my 5+ years performing on Broadway has also given me an aptitude for showtunes and various musical theater styles.

What to expect

As long as there is a clear picture given as to the nature of the event or occasion (birthday, anniversary, corporate event, etc.) and the amount of time or number of songs requested, I can usually put a set list together of appropriate songs for you. If there are particular song requests I can usually honor those requests with enough lead time and potentially additional charge if those songs are brand new to me or are particularly challenging. I will arrive at an agreed time, dressed to perform, and then leave once the performance is over. From time to time I am asked to stay after I've performed to enjoy a party or to meet and greet with guests and this is something I am usually amenable to, but if I do need to leave right after the performance I will communicate that with you. If I can reasonably walk to your event then I won't include any travel costs to my quoted fee. If the travel to and from your event requires a car or subway service, that cost will be included.

About

Heralded by the New York Times as an “ardent tenor,” Carlton Moe made his Broadway debut as Ubaldo Piangi in The Phantom of the Opera where he also had the honor of performing as a part of the final cast of Phantom’s historic 35 year run. His previous opera credits include Lakmé (Gerald), I Capuletti e i Montecchi (Tebaldo), The Mother of Us All (John Adams), Ernest Bloch's Macbeth (Malcolm), with the Manhattan School of Music Opera Studio, Roméo et Juliette (Tybalt) with the Aspen Music Festival and Savannah Voice Festival, and Albert Herring (Albert) with the Napa Music Festival. Carlton’s voice can also be heard on the EastWest Sounds virtual instrument collection “Voices of Opera”.

He debuted at Carnegie Hall in 2013 with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra as the “Brother” in Kurt Weill’s The Seven Deadly Sins and has performed as soloist in major works such as Verdi’s Requiem, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Mozart’s Requiem, and Handel’s Messiah with such orchestras as the Oregon Symphony, Portland Chamber Orchestra, Walla Walla Symphony, and the Charlottesville Symphony Society.

For his portrayal of Chevalier de la Force in Portland State University Opera’s production of Dialogues des Carmélites, Mr. Moe “made a lasting impression that drew an additional helping of bravos at the end of the performance” ((link hidden)). Carlton also sang the role of Sparky in the premiere recording of Kenneth Froelich’s opera Valentine with Heretic Opera. He completed his Bachelor of Music in voice at Portland State University and his Master of Music in classical voice at The Manhattan School of Music where he attended on a full scholarship.
