Michaëlle Martial is a Haitian-born poet known as The Caribbean Nightingale. She belongs to Ben Cabey's Fusion Production, a Salt Lake City based group of diverse performers, including Spoken Word artists, drummers, dancers, rappers and opera singers. For the past several years, Michaëlle has also performed her work with the group 365 Poetry as well as Rock Canyon Poets. In February 2017, she was selected to be part of the cast of The Vagina Monologues at the University of Utah.
Michaëlle recently published The Nightingale's New Song: A Black Woman's Poetic Notes, the fruit of more than four years of labor. In her own words, this book is essentially her "blood, sweat and tears." This is also the first anthology of poetry and prose in her series, Journal of the Caribbean Nightingale. The author currently resides in Utah with her amazing children and their cat.
