We offer performances and workshops in FCBD® Style Belly Dance, formerly known as American Tribal Style®, in the Colorado Springs area. Our services include parties, festivals, private instruction, and corporate events.
FCBD® Style Belly Dance is an improvisational group dance influenced by folk dances from India, Africa, the Middle East, and Spain. In our classes, students learn movements, cues, and combinations, creating a unique experience each time. This dance style promotes presence, connection, body awareness, and confidence as we celebrate our unique bodies.

You should expect a lovely duet sharing the art of American Tribal Style belly dance. ATS improvisational movements and cues are inspired by folkloric dances of the Middle East, North Africa, Spain and India. We often may use a prop, such as a sword- this is to be requested beforehand. We are family friendly, our costuming is pretty conservative compared to other styles of belly dance.
Hello, my name is Valerie!
My love for belly dance began at age 9, and my journey began in 1998 when I started learning Raqs Sharqi with Leea Aziz in Walnut Creek, California.
After moving to Colorado in 2005, I discovered FatChanceBellyDance® belly dance with Barb Ferrill Van Hoy and fell in love with it. I then obtained my FCBD® Style General Skills Certificate and FCBD® Teacher Training Certification in September 2011. I have been passionate about teaching this group format ever since. I have a growth-mindset teaching style and will encourage you to get out of your comfort zone. My goal is to teach you beautiful movements that will make you feel empowered. During my time of teaching, I have taken many workshops and private in-person instruction from pioneers in FCBD® Style. I acquired my FCBD® Advanced Teacher Training certification in September 2016. I am the one of two Certified FCBD® Style studios in Colorado and the first Advanced Teacher Trained in Colorado out of 22 worldwide.

We like our music to be loud, we play finger cymbals (zills)- the louder the better!
The average set is 15-30 minutes long unless asked to dance a very short set, which is 3-7 minutes long.
The performance shall include finger cymbals.
If appropriate, the performers will encourage audience participation through dancing. Guests of honor may be invited onto the stage to dance, but the performers will not force those who are uninterested in participating.
