Bradford Smith
Overview
Bradford Smith is a soulful saxophonist whose music bridges the timeless elegance of jazz standards with the smooth grooves of R&B. Picking up the horn at age 14, he has spent years crafting a voice that speaks with honesty and emotional depth — whether performing solo with custom backing tracks or lighting up the room at jazz jam sessions.
After hurricane Helene hit my home in Yancy County I stepped away from performing. My family was ok and lucky, but everything was a mess. I used the time to evaluate priorities, and I eventually realized that playing music really was important in my life.

October 27, 2025Bradford was outstanding!
Bradford was outstanding to work with on our event. He was prompt, exceeded expectations and a true talent. The approach of making a saxophone the main musical draw was unique and special!

May 3, 2024Amazing, Stellar
Wow! What a wonderful experience I had, Bradford made my surprise for my mother the best surprise she has ever had. Quoted exactly from my mother, best Mother’s Day celebration EVER!
She cried, my family cried and so did the entire restaurant. Bradford drove 2 hr to execute his performance.
Stellar, out of this world, also very kind and thoughtful … He even read a little blurb for me since I couldn’t be there with my family.
I would give him 10 stars if I could ….

Thank you Dana, for asking me be part of this mother's day celebration, as simple as this gig seemed, just 1 song, I will always remember it. The emotional impact of that performance was huge, as I started playing, Dana's mom said it was one of their favorite songs, and then I understood their connection, and as I saw the tears forming, I had to focus because crying and playing saxophone is not the easiest. I can't say how happy I was to be part of your surprise for your mom!

What to expect
Bradford is a solo saxophonist, performing with backing tracks. My basic PA system consist of two QSC-K8 speakers (10"x10"x17") to play the backing tracts, and if needed to mic the sax, also a mic for speaking is available . I can stand or sit. Give me a little space and I can be good with doing my gig, I just love playing:)
Music Sets....I work with the background tracks to set the vibe and improvised melodies to elevate, I read the room and go with the flow, upbeat, danceable to feeling relaxed and cool, maybe a little introspective, but I promise I will pick you back up. The saxophone is an instrument that sounds good on recordings, but...its different live, you can feel it, all the sound comes from a reed, I was blown away the first time I heard a sax playing at a jazz venue with out a mic.
Volume levels appropriate for small parties, receptions, 40-400 people can mingle and my music will be in the background. Or I can turn a living room into a disco dance party by cranking the speakers to 11, and I do have a mouthpiece for that. If you are supplying the pa-system, well you just made my job easier.

Influences and inspiration
What past or present acts have influenced you?
Who hasn't influenced me, lately I listing to Dexter Gordon and Hank Mobley, greats of the 60's Jazz scene, love their tone, and the fluidity of their improvisations.
And then I listen to the chill hop and I hear a new form of jazz with hip hop beats and then it just feels good.
