February 28, 2012Blacktop Burning was a surprisingly great band. The show they put on at the Soapbox was pretty amazing. They came out with amazing energy and really shook the place up. You couldn't help but move when they started jamming into their first riff. The guitars were really powerful and the drummer was simply amazing. Underneath that the bassist was playing some remarkably complex riffs of his own. The vocals sounded and were very unique. Even further more the lyrics were clever and really molded everything together and gve the band a very punk feel. Blacktop Burning certainly didn't dissapoint and dished out a performance not unlike the elite bands on the east coast. All in all Blacktop Burning is well worth the cover charge.

Forming from the ashes of two bands in October 2010, Blacktop Burning hails from many different styles of music that influence each of its members. From Skyler Randolphs' eccentric and complex basslines, to the room shaking, seismic drumming of Robert Decker, to the lightning fast,scorching lead riffs by Jake Coleman, and the clever,intrinsic lyrics of Brent Koehler, this band will make you stop and take a listen. Or at the very least, you'll get a nice laugh out of it.
