January 16, 2023Consummate professional
Mr. Golden has all the characteristics one could desire in a musician. He was on-time, prepared, energetic but calm, attentive, agreeable, neat, crisp, knowledgable, and talented. He played a graduation party for my wife and I which was attended by half a dozen University professors, two dozen friends and neighbors, and half a dozen family members. It was an outdoor event with tents in case of inclement weather ( luckily the weather was agreeable ) and the party went on for longer than we imagined it might. There are probably hundreds of guitarists available for such a gig. I think the number with Mr. Golden's musical depth is much more limited. While he had a prepared playlist, our guests made many requests, some which I viewed as unreasonable. They were not disappointed. Mr. Golden shifts easily from pop, to classical, to gypsy jazz, Irish rags, bluegrass, and more. One moment I am listening to Bach and Schubert, then suddenly Django Rheinhart followed by some passionate and flamboyant flamenco. Mr. Golden's repertoire is astounding, his performance enjoyable, and his awareness of volume levels and the crowd's mood sensitive and professional. I have recommended him to many people, both corporate acquaintances and friends. I recommend him to you now.

What to expect
Clients can expect a polished, expressive performance tailored to the atmosphere of their event. The music can serve as an engaging focal point or create a sophisticated backdrop that complements conversation without overpowering the room.
Three performance options are available:
SOLO INSTRUMENTAL GUITAR
Classical guitar is at the heart of my playing, with repertoire that also includes flamenco, jazz, Spanish and Latin American music. This option is especially well suited to wedding ceremonies, cocktail hours, dinners, galleries and intimate concerts.
SOLO or DUO BLUEGRASS AND AMERICANA
This performance features acoustic guitar, vocals and accomplished flatpicking. Audiences can expect a thoughtfully curated mix of traditional and contemporary bluegrass, folk and Americana. The emphasis is on authentic roots music, strong musicianship and songs that I genuinely connect with.
GYPSY JAZZ AND SWING DUO
Inspired by Django Reinhardt and the European jazz tradition, the duo combines spirited improvisation, rhythmic energy and melodic interplay. It is an elegant but lively choice for receptions, cocktail hours, dinners and private events.
Every client receives clear communication, professional presentation and music chosen specifically for the occasion. I am happy to discuss the event’s setting, audience and desired atmosphere before recommending the best performance format.
About
B.J. Golden is an award-winning guitarist and vocalist offering distinctive live music for weddings, corporate events, private dinners and celebrations.
His solo instrumental repertoire spans classical, flamenco, jazz, Spanish and Latin American music. These styles are equally suited to an elegant ceremony, intimate concert or sophisticated background setting.
For a more roots-oriented experience, B.J. performs bluegrass and Americana with acoustic guitar, vocals and accomplished flatpicking. The repertoire is carefully curated around traditional and contemporary roots music rather than generic acoustic covers.
B.J. also offers a gypsy jazz and swing duo inspired by Django Reinhardt and the European jazz tradition. This energetic and sophisticated pairing is ideal for cocktail hours, dinners and receptions.
B.J. holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in classical guitar performance. After hearing him play backstage, Lyle Lovett invited him to open several concerts as a solo classical guitarist. He later spent nearly a decade touring as a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist with Brantley Gilbert. His writing and recording credits include Robert Randolph, Willie Nelson, Brantley Gilbert and others.
Additional booking notes
Solo performances are self-contained. I provide all instruments, an acoustic amplifier suitable for audiences of up to approximately 250 people, a vocal microphone and stand, instrument stands, cables and an armless performance chair.
A raised stage is not required for most events, but the performance area should be clean, level and large enough to accommodate the performer and equipment. Gypsy jazz or bluegrass duo performances require sufficient space for two musicians.
A reliable, grounded 120-volt power outlet should be located near the performance area. Whenever possible, audio equipment should not share a circuit with catering equipment, heaters or other high-draw devices.
Outdoor performances require a fully covered, dry performance area with protection from direct sunlight, wind and rain. A small umbrella is not sufficient protection for the instruments or electrical equipment. An indoor alternative may be required in cases of rain, extreme temperatures or unsafe weather.
For evening events, the client or venue should provide adequate lighting for the performance area and safe access during setup and breakdown.
For audiences larger than 250, large outdoor spaces or venues with an installed sound system, additional sound reinforcement may be required. Technical arrangements can be coordinated with the venue or production team in advance.
Reasonable parking and load-in access near the performance area are appreciated. Please communicate stairs, long walking distances or restricted setup times before the event.
