Ours was an intimate setting with some room for Ben to express himself individually, just before the real accompanying started. Wow. He blew minds.
He quickly attuned himself to the feeling of the room and could not have played more sensitively or more beautifully.
He came prepared and at the same time was flexible.
I could not recommend him more to anyone, whether accompanying someone or playing solo.

About
Benjamin Paul Schmalz, the solo act of Ben Paul's Music, is an award winning pianist, multi-instrumentalist, and composer based in Calgary, Alberta. He holds a Master of Music in piano performance and a Master of Arts in music theory (both from Western University), and performs on piano, cello, bass guitar and trumpet across many genres. Along with placing in national and international music competitions, his experience ranges from solo concerts and weddings to the Okotoks Show & Shine Auto Festival, an online performance for a Visit Jamaica conference, and a red-carpet movie promo event for "The Canadian Heist". He has written and recorded piano and cello parts for singer-songwriter Kelsey Raine and released the single 'Maybe' with Canadian soprano Michaela Chiste. Currently, he is working on releasing an album of jazz, funk and sci-fi inspired music.
Additional booking notes
Ben Paul's Music normally provides solo instrumental live music, but is open to collaborating or being paired with other musicians and singers. If songs involving vocals are requested in advance, my singer that I gig with may be able to perform alongside me depending on scheduling.
For sound requirements, I will need:
- Access to a tuned piano or electrical outlet for my keyboard and/or bass
- Access to a PA system or 200-500W keyboard/and or bass amp for medium to large venues
- No equipment needed for small venues
