Bassoonist Spencer Méndez

I am a modern bassoonist with a love for all forms of classical and contemporary music. With my special love for all of these genres, and my talent for playing them, I like to play a mix of different kinds of composers and pieces, seeing as bassoon is already a unique sound to most audiences. As a Puerto-Rican/American musician myself, I understand the need for underrepresented pieces and composers to be done and done well, and I aim to do this by playing them side-by-side with canonized greats to show the beauty of both the standards and the pieces that still deserve to be heard. I have prepared solo bassoon repertoire, repertoire with piano, and chamber repertoire, all of which could be a part of my program.

I currently attend the Royal Conservatory's Glenn Gould School for a Bachelor of Music in Performance on full scholarship. I perform in the Royal Conservatory Orchestra and a wind quintet with very talented students. I pride myself on being a flexible and knowledgeable performer, with many performances in solo, ensemble, and orchestra contexts.
