January 18, 2024Our New Year's Eve lunch turned out to be a great success, thanks to the fantastic performance by Barry Allen Cohen. The delightful selection of songs got numerous people on their feet, dancing away, while those who preferred to sit and listen were treated to a special musical experience. Barry's stage presence and the lighting further enhanced the overall atmosphere of the day. We will definitely have him back again.

December 26, 2023We have listened to Barry Cohen perform for years. He can play tunes ranging from Frank Sinatra to current pop music. He also has written his own songs including one called San Diego, a tribute to our hometown. Depending on your need, he can perform solo or with his Big Daddy Orchestra.
We highly recommend Barry Cohen. For the Civita Recreational Association, we have hired him to perform on more than one occasion and brought him back for our holiday event this year.

Pop Jazz Singer Barry Allen Cohen is from Kansas City originally. He is currently working on a big band project right now so you might compare his sound to Michael Buble, Harry Connick, Jr. and Sinatra.
Barry didn’t start singing until after college, so he got a late start. He was in a duo called ‘Destiny’ and his associate did all the singing in the beginning and then they started harmonizing. They played the best of
artists like America, Bread, Loggins and Messina, Hall & Oates, Pure Prairie League, Firefall, Van Morrison, James Taylor, Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers and Elton John. They were one of the most popular groups at
the University of Kansas.
Before moving to San Diego Barry had one of the top Reggae bands in Kansas City. In 2001 he was inspired by Harry Connick, Jr. and started learning all the Great American Songbook Standards and that’s when he formed ‘The Big Daddy Orchestra’. It sounds like a swing band, but it’s a full variety cover band – R&B, Top 40, Motown, Disco, Latin, Swing, Jazz and more. The band was the featured headliner for both the Little Italy Festa San Diego and the USS Midway’s New Year’s Eve Gala six years in a row.
Barry is self- taught on guitar and vocals. In his career he has had the opportunity to open for Bonnie Raitt, Warren Zevon, The Fifth Dimension, Dave Mason, Frank Stallone, Max Groove, Slim Man, Fattburger, Oleta Adams, Joyce Cooling, Candy Dulfer, Jonathan Butler and Matt Dusk. In 2003 he sang with Michael Buble at the Cinegrill in LA.
In 2005 he recorded ‘San Diego My Port of Call’, the signature song for America’s finest city. He is also working on a Christmas album that will be out in late 2024.
