About

Arnell Carmichael: Singer/guitarist of the popular group Raydio & Ray Parker Jr. with many hit records. Songs as Jack and Jill, You Can't Change That, and Two Places At The Same, and he's even worked on Ghostbusters. But nothing makes him prouder than this new product he's just created "The ArnellDerek Band" which is a jazz trio, or a quartet. The story behind this great endeavor is that he was trained under Allan Barnes a saxophonist for The Blackbyrds. Barnes studying under Professor Donald Byrd at Howard University. "He taught me the jazz concept as a busker going out to rehearse for 3 years on the streets of Detroit with him," says Arnell. Then he began the next seven years playing at Baker's Keyboard Lounge with Alan Barnes & Primetime Alan's jazz band as a rhythm guitarist. "I remember playing in front of Comerica Park, Eastern Market, and 1515 Broadway Theatre," says Arnell. Allan asks him to perform at Baker's Keyboard Lounge with him for over a decade before his passing. Allan Barnes expected the band and other feature musicians to deliver the passion, and soul interest in performing jazz traditional music. This band still performs to this day at Baker's every first Sat of the month to a packed house. Now here comes the 2018 season at Baker's Keyboard Lounge. They are still there. Right now is the time for Arnell Carmichael to display his skills as a guitarist in an intimate setting or to the jazz world as himself a singer/guitarist. His technical articulation and his guitar work are being recognized by the ear of so many new listeners of jazz. He reaches a new generation of people wonderfully. As he resonates with young listeners they can appreciate the great art of being a jazz guitarist.
