Overview

I'm a professional jazz stride pianist that plays. A lot of people call what I do "ragtime", but is more properly traditional jazz piano from the 1920s and 30s. If you're throwing a theme party or any sort of festive event where an energetic sound will contribute to the atmosphere, I'm your man. I dress the part and absolutely love my job. When not performing solo, you may have seen me playing with several traditional jazz groups, like Big Nasty, The Roaring Lions, and Firecracker Jazz Band, WNC's #1 Jazz group, (Mountain Xpress Best of WNC Reader's Poll, 2005-2012, 2014) I'm a traditionalist, and I only play real pianos. If you don't have one, I may be able to include a piano with my fee.

Wonderful!

Andrew is amazing! He is not only a super talented pianist but was able to read the room and create a fun yet elegant atmosphere for our guests during our cocktail hour. We heard from multiple family and friends how much they loved Andrew, and we couldn't recommend a better pianist!

Awesome Jazz pianist!!

We had a 1920s wedding and I wanted everything to be specific to the era, including the music. Andrew was the perfect match for the event! He played beautifully and even came dressed in theme with the event. He was very professional; I would absolutely hire him again!!!!!

What to Expect

I play hot jazz piano. Some people like to dance to it, others enjoy the traditional style. I can play saloon style, barrelhouse and other early 20th century American piano styles. But I also can play a lighter style with more ballads in my set that is suitable for more of a cocktail hour feeling. I really try to play the room, so I'm going to respond to whatever environment you put me in. I'm happy to play in the background, if that's what you need, but if you're looking for elevator jazz, I am not what you're looking for! I prefer to energize your event with my music, not put everybody to sleep. If you have questions feel free to talk through your event with me!

About

Having barnstormed through the Asheville music scene for 7 years, Andrew Fletcher's playing in the style of his musical heroes - Jelly Roll Morton, Clarence Williams and James P. Johnson - has turned heads and moved feet where ever he is found. After years of classical piano, Andrew began learning early jazz tunes and playing them whenever he could, sitting in on countless late-night jam sessions in the high-octane music world of Asheville, North Carolina, cutting his teeth next to some of the best roots musicians in the South. Mentored for over five years by former Firecracker Jazz Band pianist Reese Gray, Andrew has stepped in to keep the trademark energy and authenticity of Firecracker Jazz Band at full steam. Currently playing over 200 performances a year in a variety of settings from cocktail hours, late night bars, hotel lobbies, fundraisers, weddings, receptions and even occasionally busking on the street. Founding member of jazz trio The Roaring Lions, space groove rock Hank West & The Smokin' Hots and '50s rock quartet The Burger Kings.

Additional Booking Notes

Because I'm interested in the tradition of the piano and not the electric piano, I do not play electric keyboards when I play a solo performance.
