As the opera singer at your special event, you can expect a professional in every sense of the word. My goal is to involve you and your guests as fully in the emotional importance of your day through a beautiful musical experience.
As your singing professional, I am happy to provide many things. If your church or place of worship allows outside singers, I am happy to consult with the music director to come up with music that will create the perfect atmosphere for your day. Normally I am hired for two to three pieces in a service. These can be preludes or presentations. I am also available to sing (for Catholic services) the wedding mass. Depending on the nature of the commitment, the pay rate will change.
On the day of, you will not think of me except for when I am providing the high quality music that you would expect of a professional opera singer. I will arrive one hour before mass time. This gives enough time to run through church music with the music director, verify hymns, and make sure that music is in order. It also guarantees for you that I will be at your function BEFORE your special event is taking place.
As I have seen many times, there are beautiful services at outside venues that may not require religious music but still want that classical touch. For these events, I am happy to provide an accompanist (at an extra fee) as well as be in contact with you in regards to exactly what you would want for your special day.
All in all, my goal is to provide you with a stress free approach to entertainment for your special event.
Soprano Amelia Wilber is a young, emerging singer from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While residing in Boston, Ms. Wilber made recent debuts with Lowell House and MetroWest Operas, appearing in Tchaikovsky's Pique Dame (Ensemble) and Puccini's Suor Angelica (Una Conversa and Ensemble). Previous roles and scenes appearances include Richard Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier (Octavian), Otto Nikolai's The Merry Wives of Windsor (Meg Page), W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (Second Lady), W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro (Cherubino), Jack Beeson's Lizzie Borden (Lizzie), Francis Poulenc's Les mamelles de Tirésias (Ensemble), and Leoš Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen (Hen and Ensemble).
While in Boston, Ms. Wilber has been very active on the recital scene. As an advocate of new music Ms. Wilber has worked with many up and coming composers on premiers of new works. Highlights from this past season include the song cycle Leaves by Ryan Scott Fossier, Journey of a Poem and The Flowered Spread by Matthew Weaver, and Buddha in der Glorie by David Vess. Ms. Wilber rounded out her recital schedule with performances of Ned Rorem's Ariel, Dominick Argento's Songs to be sung upon the water, and Franz Schubert's Der Hirt auf dem Felsen.
Ms. Wilber received her Master of Music from The Boston Conservatory where she studied with Monique Phinney. She received her Bachelor of Music from Temple University where she studied with Randi Marrazzo. Notable training programs have included Si Parla, Si Canta and The Crittenden Opera Workshop.
As a classical vocalist, I am able to perform without amplification (in most venues). The tricky thing about vocal music is that it is really a duo. I will need a pianist and access to a piano. If you do not have a pianist, I am able to provide one at an additional fee.
This is a taste of the musical offerings I am able to provide. If you have any specific requests from the classical or musical theater genre, I am happy to learn the piece with enough notice.
