When I speak on stage about my experiences as a survivor of Human Trafficking, I try to always inject a sense of humor. The subject matter I talk about can be really heavy and if it's not delivered properly can leave people feeling triggered, traumatized and depressed. I see this often in the field of work I'm in. It's what I lovingly refer to as "trauma vomiting." You get all the bad stuff, and nothing good comes from it. I want people to feel uplifted, not depressed! November 7, 2023I am a Church Planter/Pastor and have had extensive classes in public speaking. Amanda is an excellent speaker who is very engaging. The people at our event seemed to hang on every word and some were moved to tears. I overheard some asking her what they could do to help those who need it. She is very much the "people person" following the event taking time to speak with each person who to talk with her and/or get one of her books autographed. She was very honest and up front in her presentation and when answering people's questions; she was blunt and truthful but not distasteful. I plan on having Amanda back as my and her schedule permits.

Trauma changes our brain. YOU change your life.
I like to talk about how my life changed after trafficking, what I did to overcome the trauma, what it's meant to my relationships with people, and that dirty of all dirties, forgiveness. It may not always be easy to let go of that deeply rooted anger, but it will ALWAYS be worth it to try. I'm also able to discuss the complexities of trafficking, why it doesn't look like what we are made to believe it does, and some of the greatest healing tools we can have to help retrain our brains.
I've been able to speak on a multitude of stages. I've been interviewed by the Chicago Tribune, sold my artwork internationally, been a keynote speaker at international summits, talked on multiple radio programs, and published over a dozen books. I also launched four podcasts, each in their own way designed to assist others through trauma or to lift the voices of amazing humans in the world with powerful stories to share.
Amanda Blackwood is a survivor of human trafficking who is now an accomplished artist and author, public speaker, podcast host, and trauma recovery mentor. Despite the numerous challenges she faced, she was able to emerge stronger with the help of her faith. I do prefer a lav mic to a handheld. I can get a little animated while on stage sometimes and would prefer if my hands are free to be expressive, but this is not a dealbreaker by any means.
I also like to request a small space for a bottle of water - if that's a podium or a stool, I'm not bothered.
A setup with a projector that can pair with Google Pages is preferable but not required.
