“ My Journey to Polynesian Dance”

Since I was three years old I can remember being at my grandma’s house listening to the Hawaiian music and walking thru the downstairs room to peak at my grandma’s (Kumu Lokalia’s ) professional dancers. We were in Fremont California. At that time the group was called the “Kailua Dancers”. It was a small group of women who formed the group, under the instruction of my grandmother.

I watched, listened and learned silently until the age of five when my grandmother began to instruct me as well. She had traveled to the big island of Hawaii to receive her certification as “Kumu”, which means instructor and backbone of a Halau (Hawaiian dance school).

There is so much to learn when you attempt to take this on. You must know the music, translation, culture, art of costume making, choreography, language and live the Aloha Spirit.

After many years of study I opened my own Hawaiian Dance School and the birth of Aloha Dancers arose in 2003. Since that time I have grown as a teacher and continue to learn. “Hula is a way of life”. Those who come to join the Halau will tell you, we are a fantastic Hawaiian Dance School with lots of Aloha Spirit. We are open to all “Hawaiians at Heart”.

Aloha Dancers offers Professional Hawaiian Entertainment to El Dorado County and Sacramento. We can cater to any budget and your specific needs for your special event! We offer a FULL LIVE SHOW and a hula lesson for your guests. We are also available for photography promos and lei greetings.

In addition to Entertainment you can also take lessons with Aloha Dancers from my Folsom or Shingle Springs location.
