August 24, 2026Perfect band for our Town Festival!
As the entertainment coordinator on the town committee that organized the 2026 Falmouth Fest, I'm very happy to report that Alive in the Root was absolutely fantastic! Their outstanding musicality, stage presence and song selection made them a hit. They are polished and yet great fun. From the little kids in front of the stage to the seniors sitting in the front row -- and everyone in between -- they earned the happy hootin' and hollering applause they received after every song. They're super professional and thus were very easy to work with. I recommend them wholeheartedly!

August 17, 2026Talented Musicians, Highly Recommend!
We had originally selected Alive in the Root for closing out our summer music in the park series. Unfortunately, we had to cancel but were able to reschedule for another event the following week! I greatly appreciated their flexibility for changing dates and still providing an outstanding performance! They played a great mix of covers and originals which fit so well into our event. I would absolutely recommend this talented group of musicians for any event!

August 12, 2026Alive in the Root is everything we look for in a band
Alive in the Root is everything we look for in a band at Andy's Old Port Pub.
Front-woman Jessie Kessler has one of those voices that just stops you in your tracks. She can go from beautifully soft and intimate to gritty, powerful, and absolutely mesmerizing in the span of one song. More than that, she *feels* every lyric—and you feel it too.
Their set lists are one of my favorite things about them. They pull out songs you don't hear every weekend, yet somehow everyone knows every word. It's the kind of music that has people looking at each other saying, "Oh my God, I LOVE this song!" Before long, they're singing along, dancing, or both.
The band's originals are fantastic and I've yet to hear a spin on a cover that wasn't as enjoyable the original recording... or made even better. That being said, I feel their biggest strength is that they know how to read a room. They don't just play a set—they build the night. They know when to bring the energy up, when to let people settle into a song, and how to create exactly the vibe we're hoping for.
As a venue owner, I also can't say enough about how easy they are to work with. They're professional, organized, communicative, show up prepared, and make everything easy on the administrative side—which is worth its weight in gold.
We've had a lot of great bands play Andy's over the years, and Alive in the Root is one I never hesitate to put back on the calendar. They're talented, they're fun, they understand our crowd, and they consistently deliver a great night. That's about the highest compliment I can give a band.

August 11, 2026Will not disappoint!
Alive in the Root performed for my husband's surprise 50th birthday party. They brought everything they needed to put on a great show and were very versatile with their set. Vocals were top notch and they went above and beyond by learning his favorite song. Would absolutely recommend!

What to expect
Alive in the Root is a show filled with poetic original music and great harmonies. We also play songs with a variety of tempo and energy. We have several strong instrumentalists to showcase the beauty of string music. We have been asked back to play every venue we've done and people really enjoy seeing us.
We are also sensitive to the audience and can custom tailor our show to suit a specific event, both in volume and tone of the performance. We are also happy to learn specific songs in advance of a given show. We love new material ideas!
About
Alive in the Root is an acoustic 4-piece that performs a mix of original music and interesting covers which can best be described as a mix of jazz, bluegrass, acoustic roots, and blues. We are all vocalists and spend a lot of time developing this part of our sound both in our original music and when interpreting cover songs. We are a mix of acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin, upright bass, and 4 part harmonies. We are there to have a good time and people have a good time watching us have a good time.
Additional booking notes
We have a PA/sound setup enough to amplify our group for about 200 people to hear easily. We can engineer our sets to be soft listening to high energy, depending on the event, though we are not a party/dance band.
If a show is much larger than that then we work with clients to procure or provide additional sound reinforcement and personnel, as we typically run all our own sound from the stage and without a dedicated sound person.
