About T.S. Grant
From corporate seminars to graduations, T.S. Grant draws from his experiences as a Christian minister, U.S. Air Force Military Policeman, author and educator to motivate and inspire his audiences, with a message about overcoming obstacles to attain victory and success in life.
As an Emcee, motivational speaker and orator (see his biography for details) his speaking appearances are lined with sound advice, ice-breaking comedy and inspiring straight talk--and his master's degree in teaching certainly helps!
Biography:
T.S. Grant grew up in New Haven, Connecticut. Raised by a single mother on welfare and in the projects, he has first-hand experience of being in want. By age nine, he was pulled out of the public school system, told he was retarded and was placed in an extremely restrictive environment, the Elizabeth Ives School for Special Children. Within a couple of years, he began robbing pocketbooks, candy stores and department stores. He was on probation before he became a teenager.
He managed to graduate high school in 1987, and one month after graduation, T.S. enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served for close to four years.
In the Air Force, he became a military policeman. His specialty was K-9 Patrol. He then became a narcotics cop. He was stationed in Germany for two years, and he visited six other European countries while there. When not enforcing the law, he could be found in Germany--doing stand-up comedy. Upon his military discharge in 1991, T.S. Grant moved to New York City to try his hand at comedy and acting (stand-up comedy night). That pursuit was short-lived as he sought to go on a spiritual journey. He thus became a minister in 1993 of a non-denominational church in Manhattan. As a minister, he was able to visit the Philippines, South Africa, Jamaica (West Indies) and many American states.
In 1998, he resigned from the ministry and entered John Jay College of Criminal Justice, City University of New York, setting out to be the first person in his immediate family to graduate from college. During his brief three and a half years in college, he was elected president of his honor society, Phi Eta Sigma, participated in the Model Nation United Nations conference, and completed an internship on Hillary Clinton's senatorial exploratory committee. He graduated Magna Cum Laude in June 2001 with a bachelor's degree in History.
After graduating, he moved to Maryland, married his long-time girlfriend and began teaching Social Studies in Baltimore City. A year later, his first book was published--An Autobiography of an Unknown Man. Shortly thereafter, the Baltimore Sun newspaper published some of his writing.
After teaching for several years in Baltimore (also serving one year as an assistant principal), he began teaching Government and Advanced Placement Psychology in Prince George's County.
T.S. earned his Master's degree in Teaching from Johns Hopkins University in 2006. He is currently working on his Ph.D. at an honors university, The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC).
On 17 September of 2007, the 220th anniversary of the writing of the U.S. Constitution, T.S. recited the U.S. Constitution from memory at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, the birthplace of the historical document. It was his fifth time performing such a feat.
In 2008, T.S. Grant published two new books--a translation of the United States Constitution ("in other words. . . . The U.S. Constitution for Regular Folks") and his first fiction ("8th Grade").
He is married, with two young boys. They reside in Prince George's County, Maryland.
