93 Street Community Missionary Baptist Church; under the leadership of Pastor Carl Johnson; covering pastor for The Apostles; acted as the birth place and stomping grounds of the Apostles ministry. With the likes of fellow church member and men chorus director; William “Ponch” Orange; leader and singer of National Gospel Recording Artist(s) Second Chapter of a Miami, Florida a Gospel based quartet ministry as an (link hidden)e Apostles were off to a great start.
Original Apostles members Earnest H. Faust Jr.;Kenneth Herring and Marlon R. Graves did not want to re-invent the gospel wheel, yet deliver something unique. A musical ministry which brought clarity to people’s reality through song."To Save One Soul", is the mission of The Apostles through the eyes and visionary Earnest H. Faust Jr.
“Cool”(Arcadia, Fla.) (pictured in the middle) a local native of South Florida and veteran in R&B Soul music for more than 20 years went back to his roots; the church. Earnest performed R&B, Soul cover and original music throughout the United States and even in Europe ex. USO while in the Army. Earnest shared stages with such artist as Miami soul legend Betty Wright, O’Jays, Cameo and Jazz Queen Ruby Baker; even to the likes of hip hop and rap legend Luke in the late 80’s and early 90’s. He credits his musical talent to his rich upbringing in Gospel music to his family who resides in (Arcadia, Fla.) Earnest, feels that by making the decision to give his life back to Christ; was the best decision he has ever made. He credits ex- congress woman Carrie Meeks for her kind words to him after an R&B performance in the '90s as the turning point of his life. He thanks her for allowing God to speak through her when she stated "Son, that voice was made for the Gospel" said Carrie Meeks. Since, then he never sung R&B music again. As leader and visionary of The Apostles Ministry; he focuses on commitment and dedication to the word of Jesus Christ.
The trio resulting back to their roots was mentored by the late “Stan The Man” (R.I.P) blues legend… and guitarist. Originally, practicing quartet cover songs with a three voice harmony, never quite fit their style.
“Winner In You” The Apostles 1st single was birthed from the heart and mind of Earnest H. Faust Jr. as a solo and lead singer in the clubs and R&B stages; where the song carried weight but never ministered like it does now. The combination of Kenneth and Marlon's smooth background vocals took people by storm; which sparked The Apostle signature notification for having “Smooth Sounds with Tight Harmony”. The signature song "Winner In You"along with a new redemption of traditional gospel folklore “Jesus is on the Main Line” and something new for the younger folks called “Show Him Love”. The Apostles took off!
With several local appearance and T.V. debuts on Paul and Jan's TBN’s “Praise the Lord“ show, radio interviews and several Bobby Jones Gospel showcases , churches, social events, plays and major concert openings throughout the years. The Apostles still were challenged from all directions. With no CD’s in the stores the ministry could not supply the heavy demands of the music industry. With minimal support the ministry sometimes would travel just to expose their talent funding everything with no return but the mere fact a souls were being saved. "It was difficult !" said Earnest. Giving up was not an option but doubt set in and hindered the ministry's progression. Legal battles kept the Apostles on the brink of being silent for up to two years. Also, with the sudden departure of Kenneth Herring (original member) a void needed to be filled. Several additional faces and voices later, fate brought Earnest and Marlon a familiar acquaintance in Jacquelyn “Jackie” Etienne, (Miami, Fla.) (Pictured left) Faust worked with Jackie on the local R&B circuit; Jackie rooted in Gospel, Soul and R&B had several ties to the music industries.
Jackie becoming the First Lady of 1 Soul Entertainment LLC; earned her musical merits by singing in church throughout her youth and later as a member of an all lady’s singing ministry and even touched ground with with R&B as well which opened for many shows in local Miami market ranging from social events to major concerts. Jackie's sweet but melodious voice blended with The Apostles sound which was a perfect fit for what was to come. Along with her creativity and on-point effective ad libs she provided the options of having a third lead vocal with a full female voice able to bridge the diverse given sounds of The Apostles. Currently, while in re-production of the long waited album "Winner In You", Jackie, talents have taken her into another realm of entertainment only to expand her God given gifts. Check her out locally in the South Florida Area in the stage production "Three Sisters" October 2011.
With trials and tribulations knocking on the door and legal issues keeping The Apostles from their breakthrough. Earnest and Marlon’s marriages suffered only to see divorce in the end. They celebrated birth(s) of their children only to wait by the phone to hear their children’s voice(s). Both had lived in hotels only to call home and work two or more jobs food only to keep food on the table fueled by faith. The ministry never broke up to make up, but continuously watched God move in their situations. Earnest and Marlon do not regret their shortcomings with their marriages because, they both learned how to be better men of God. They keep their strong relationship with their kids and encourage the strength of family and the commitment it takes to keep a marriage and family together . Marlon now remarried states; "Second chances are a blessing in disguise. God gave his only son, Jesus Christ; giving his people a second chances at making it right. I finally believe that i'm making it right one day at a time."
In 2009 Earnest was approach with some new opportunities which The Apostles could not pass up. With prayer and fasting the ministry was finally seeing its due justice with an opportunity to record again but this time with the right formula in place. Investments and new music landed new opportunity for The Apostles. In the early half of 2010 The Apostles were approached with new executive producers and new original music, new ideas, look and attitude . Now in 2012 The Apostles are excited about the completion of their inauguration album The Apostles "Mission Possible" due Fall 2012.
